India looks at access for A380
Air Transport World reports access for A380.
As I understand it, Indian legislation restricts operators to the number of seats on any particular service or day, and no doubt frequency of service as well. Remove the seat restriction and operators will be able to choose what equipment is operated on a service, assuming the airport can manage the relevant aircraft size of course. Should be able to start bidding by March...

India may soon scrap an archaic rule that requires domestic airlines to be operating for at least five years and have a fleet of 20 aircraft to be able to fly on international routes. The minister of civil aviation Ajit Singh said on Tuesday that his ministry is moving to change the rules from February....
.....Singh also said the ministry is examining a proposal to allow Airbus A380 flights into India. “We have asked for comments from ground handling, immigration and security agencies because this infrastructure will be affected. One plane will have up to 500-600 passengers at a time. We are awaiting their comments,” he said.
A change in this policy would benefit network carriers including Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Lufthansa and British Airways, which would be able to fly A380s to India.

The pressure on the Indian government to lift the seat restriction will be primarily from foreign airlines, particularly the worlds largest A380 operator.
Can't see an Indian AOC holder with an A380 operation from DEL/BOM anytime soon.

ATW
Whip out a full service to Y/J/F in 2 hours, won't that be a challenge.
The Indian government said Monday it was lifting restrictions on Airbus A380 flights into the country.........An Emirates spokesperson said, “We welcome the decision of the Indian aviation authorities to allow A380 operations. We will be reviewing our existing operations, and look forward to serving Indian travelers with our flagship aircraft in the near future.”......

I shared transport with a 380 skipper a while ago who was looking forward to the variety of the sub continent once more, and at the very least of getting to spend more than 3 days in the same time zone, I guess there are only sooo many LHR, MAN, and CDG's one can cope with.
Mumbai and Delhi must be no brainers, and I suppose Calcutta? bets on Calicut?

Your close there falcon. Delhi and hydragood are the only two 380 approved airfields in India at the moment. I am sure that will change if the seat limit is removed. I haven't met anyone on the 380 that really cares if/when India starts.
Service seems to get done on a Jed so can't see why it wouldn't work on an Indian turn.

My understanding is that the company is restricted to a specified number of seats every month.
If aircraft size increases then frequency decreases, hardly ideal.
The UAE/India bilateral amended recently covers mostly the airline that you cannot mention as a result of the tie up with the Indian carrier that I may not be allowed mention as it is now partly owned by the first carrier I mentioned that I am definitely NOT allowed mention.
Anyone care to mention if different.

I believe you are correct Fliion.
Orangewing, you are correct. Shows how much I go flying. 5 extra critical airports for the 380 in India now. With Hydrogood and Delhi being Alternates. Precursor to the future perhaps?

Don, I'd put the money we've saved from our special tickets on the premise that this approval will also shortly be followed with a local Indian 380 order and a "re-negotiation" of seat restrictions.
