Babysitting in UAE

Hello everybody!

Considering the big move to one of the big UAE carriers. We know everything we need to know about pros and cons working in UAE but we have one issue.

We have a small baby ( couple of months ) and my wife got an offer for a job that is also not 9 to 17 kind of work. She would be working in shifts morning, day, night and almost every month a few days trip outside UAE almost the same s... as my pilot work...and the pay is close to f/o package at EK or the other one.

Are there good babysitting companies or something in Dubai that we can leave are baby with durring some nights when we both work. What are mt options?
We are planing to move when the baby will be one, one and a half year old...

What are the options? ( he have grandmothers to babysit but it is not option for whole year )

Any info and help are welcome....

Ok, sounds good, does anybody have any experiance with live-in maids?

How does that work? With who do you leave your children? Who can you trust? Some philipino, or thai maid?

Any bad stories you can share?

You interview them and make sure they meet your criteria. I'd recommend a well educated Filipina. They aspire to the same standards as you, are hard working and generally have good morals driven by Catholicism. We were recommended a Sri Lankan when we first arrived, lovely girl, lazy and came with man troubles a common issue, she lasted about 4 months.

We have awlays paid over the odds and ensured the people we employed were suitable. We know others that try to do it on the cheap and are astounded at the lack of loyalty and laziness of their maids. They hire Sri Lankan's with poor English and are surprised to discover the affect it has on their kids. It's not about nationality but capability and in my experience there are far better educated Filipinas available. Interview and then remember you get what you pay for; after all they are going to look after probably your most prized assets so you want them to be happy in their role. They will cost you about 40k/year all up which sounds a lot but for full time child care, I think not.

Remember that for a full time, live-in worker you will be the sponsor. Visa costs, repatriation flight.
And for all I know you might also have to do health insurance these days - etc etc - it's not just the monthly salary you are committing to.

Many of the Filipina 'girls' wirking in the Gulf altho' single status are actually married and have often left their own young children at home with relatives. Those would probably understand the care of a toddler better than the unmarried. And might be more reliable, less likely to hitch up with a man and leave.

The flight shouldn't be that much, should it? You can get it through staff travel.

Yes, I should have said a mature Sri Lankan, the younger ones are less reliable. My experience with Filipina maids is all bad so I won't go there!

In Singapore you not only had to pay the maid but you had to pay the Government a levy, ($350 per month), to employ a foreigner instead of a Singaporean!

These days you would be lucky to get a Singaporean to work for you, then it is five and a half day week, food, won't live in, has to have health insurance and provident fund paid for!!! In the old days the Chinese Amah was the best!

Sorry, only my first paragraph is relevant! The rest is anecdotal ramblings!

Same advice, live in maid is the best option.
I had 2 Sri Lankans before, they were really good with the kids, but one started to steal alcohol and a lot of things started to disappear, she was sent back home.

The other one, very hard worker, I was paying her 2,000dhs a month which is good money for a Sri Lankan + food vacations, medical, etc. in a family of 3, everything was great until we found out she was working illegally for another family on Fridays and in the evenings on her free time, she also wanted to bring her husband to live with us, so too many problems, I didn't renew her visa.

Now we have a Filipina 36 years old with 3 own kids in manila, man she is good, she has being with us for 6 months, not a single complain on her, she cooks, she is great with my kids, my wife loves her, I couldn't ask for someone better, but is difficult to get a good one in Dubai, be careful and good luck!
