Emirates in talks with Boeing
posted: 30.10.2013
Emirates Airline, the fast-growing Gulf carrier, is in advanced negotiations with Boeing to buy as many as 100 long-haul passenger jets, in what could be a record-breaking $30bn-plus commercial order for the US aircraft manufacturer.
Emirates said it could unveil deals with both Boeing and Airbus at next month’s Dubai air show, although the airline stressed no agreements had been finalised. Boeing and Airbus declined to comment.
State-controlled Emirates, established in 1985, is expanding at a rapid pace and providing strong competition on long-haul routes for longer established airlines based in Asia, Europe and the US.
Emirates has assembled the largest fleet of wide-body passenger jets in the world, according to the International Air Transport Association. At March 31, Emirates had 187 wide-body passenger jets.
The airline is in talks with Boeing about being a launch customer for the US manufacturer’s planned upgrade to its popular 777 wide-body jet – a project dubbed the 777X

Woo sandhound...so bitter!
What happened....did you get turned down for the lottery? Or are just pissed off that B is about to build an airplane that will make your type rating even more obsolete.
All this resentment is not healthy,I recommend you see the company therapist, mon ami.

probably he's not coming from a communist paradise but that socialist heaven where they build airbuses and want to tax millionaires 75%, let him talk about aircraft that do not exist....whatever, never met a Boeing pilot wanting to fly an airbus but I've seen plenty of airbus pilots trying to cross over and get rid of paper checklists....and the zillion manuals.

Suddenly the 777 is not the most desirable place to be and some are a little upset. This us fun to watch. Some 777 boys have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to the 380 . Stay right where you are it will suit everyone.
Order book for the A380 for the last two years stands at negative two.
Come November there will already be more commitments to the 777X than there are ever likely to be A380s in existence.

Sure- an aircraft about 30% smaller achieving 700% more sales- CLEARLY it's only to do with size!!
The 747-8 sales have been slow and it's probably going to be the last 747, basically because four engine aircraft are dinosaurs. It will still sell about 75% as many units as the A380 will, having cost a fraction of the A380s development. The total 747 deliveries at the end of the type will be about 1600 . The 380 is looking like never making 350.
You talk about new v old technology? The bean counters don't care about BTV or nice EFBs- having four ponies to feed and maintain versus two is an anachronism.
Don't get me wrong, Emirates at least will make money operating the A380. It will be at the expense of the EU taxpayer, however, as Airbus will never come close to breaking even on the project.
The difference with the 777 (AND the 747) is that it has and will make a profit for both the operator AND the manufacturer.

Everyone who is not affraid to fail and qualifies by experience and seniority wishes a transfer to A380
Some pilots hate the John Deer, others the AB set-up, so leave it at that and accommodate no one but yourself!!
There are many reasons to stay on equipment or wish to change, some even prefer the 330/340 in spe of the 350, so even to stickpushers the 380 does not have an irresistible appeal ....
EK seems to be able to make money with almost anything that flies, even stuff with old technology, because it's proven. The whale is not a leap forward and even with moving ground maps we seem to be able to miss taxiways ....
It's up to the manufacturers and taxpayers to decide how cheap they want to throw their equipment at EK, i guess we will never be able to look at the number below the line.
Anyway, the JFK-380 incident shows the legal advantage of the 4-donkeyed and the decision to pull it to KWI was great, time for a pax recovery and very cheap fuel to tanker for the next flights. On the other hand there is double the chance of a engine failure on the behemouths and statistically up to today, the 380 has a much bigger engine fail rate than the 330 or 777.
I hate engine failures ........

Well put Glofish,
I've done the other way, AB to B to AB. The 777, IMHO, is a very good a/c and has several features I'd like to see on the AB. However, it's now an old design on the flight deck and I'd like to see a significant update.
Unfortunately, to keep the common type rating, I suspect it's tied to 30 years ago though I doubt if that will harm its future.

Helen, the 777X FD will be a copy and paste of the 787(common type as you know) HGS included.
All included in the marketing and technical bumpf floating around the net. Totally agree BTW the front end on the 777 needs the update.
