If it were on the 777 I would happily volunteer for it, flight times are good; pickup at 0840, back home for dinner at 1800...

As a mate at FZ says, have fun doing the "run around"
Should get extra pay for doing duties to places like this, but of course the "generous basic pay" covers that too I suppose....

Albeit that the following is a (verbatim cut & paste) excerpt from a FZ FCM (Admin 2011-087), issued in respect of operations into an airfield somewhat to the south of Kabul, much of it is still applicable for ops into KBL:
Dearest EK brethren, we welcome you to the 'Duck & Dive' club!
Although rocket attacks within [redacted] airfield are extremely rare, with the risk of injury from such rocket attacks being equally as remote, all companies operating in and out of [redacted] airfield have been asked to communicate the “Rocket Alert Response Procedure” in line with their standard Safety and Security procedures. This procedure consists of the following:
- On hearing an audible siren, drop to the floor in the “duck and dive” maneuver. Hit the floor face down and cover the eyes.
- Once the first rocket detonates and when you feel safe to do so, make your way to the nearest bunker.
- To protect against such attacks, the airfield has specially designed blast walls which are located around the entire airfield.
"Duck and dive" won't do you much good if you're inside an aircraft full of fuel...
Someone should get a patch made up in BKK for the crew who make it back... stick that on your bag and watch the uniform police get all over that...

I'll sell any kevlar vests at a discounted price
Personally I think everyone should just call sick/boycott the KBL flights and EK will soon get the message after the first few days of them not operating the flight. That would require everyone to do that though which we know there will always be some die hard EK fan willing to impress their master for the next bone they get thrown

During my more than several adventures to Kabul, I discovered that the least of my worries was a rocket attack, rather the multitude of military/contractors flying around all over the place, and the sometimes fickle weather to be the biggest points of concern...enjoy it!!
Oh...and say hello to leelo and stich for me...you will meet them on final

The threat level at KBL is no different to that at PEW, which we already fly to on the 777. Rocket attacks regularly close the airport.
Only difference is the daily rotation. Feeling sorry for the few 340 rated guys... I'm sure when the 350 arrives it won't get used anywhere near these holes
