Lads, welcome to a taste of the world over at FZ... where we're doing KBL, 3x per day, every day! ;)

God, business must be good. Maybe EK may take one of our (FZ) three a day, preferably the one reporting at 0320:{, here's hoping!

Don't forget your tin hat!:ok:

scandistralian 16th Sep 2013 19:29

If it were on the 777 I would happily volunteer for it, flight times are good; pickup at 0840, back home for dinner at 1800...

givemewings 16th Sep 2013 20:15

As a mate at FZ says, have fun doing the "run around" :}

Should get extra pay for doing duties to places like this, but of course the "generous basic pay" covers that too I suppose.... :rolleyes:

Trader 16th Sep 2013 20:22

AB guys should check their personal life ins--may not be covered!!!!! Then call EK and see if they will cover it.

Albeit that the following is a (verbatim cut & paste) excerpt from a FZ FCM (Admin 2011-087), issued in respect of operations into an airfield somewhat to the south of Kabul, much of it is still applicable for ops into KBL:

Although rocket attacks within [redacted] airfield are extremely rare, with the risk of injury from such rocket attacks being equally as remote, all companies operating in and out of [redacted] airfield have been asked to communicate the “Rocket Alert Response Procedure” in line with their standard Safety and Security procedures. This procedure consists of the following:
  1. On hearing an audible siren, drop to the floor in the “duck and dive” maneuver. Hit the floor face down and cover the eyes.
  2. Once the first rocket detonates and when you feel safe to do so, make your way to the nearest bunker.
  3. To protect against such attacks, the airfield has specially designed blast walls which are located around the entire airfield.
Most of the attacks are meant more to harass than anything else. The base defenses are state‐of‐the art; the rockets aren't. When the attack is over the siren sounds again. "All clear, All clear”.
Dearest EK brethren, we welcome you to the 'Duck & Dive' club! :E

givemewings 16th Sep 2013 21:37

"Duck and dive" won't do you much good if you're inside an aircraft full of fuel...

Someone should get a patch made up in BKK for the crew who make it back... stick that on your bag and watch the uniform police get all over that... :E

my salami 17th Sep 2013 00:02

Look at the bright side guys...
I've been told there's free wireless @ the Airport...:}

michaeljpotter 17th Sep 2013 02:50

I'll sell any kevlar vests at a discounted price :D

Personally I think everyone should just call sick/boycott the KBL flights and EK will soon get the message after the first few days of them not operating the flight. That would require everyone to do that though which we know there will always be some die hard EK fan willing to impress their master for the next bone they get thrown :rolleyes:

powerstall 17th Sep 2013 03:03

They must have installed flares on those A345's. Better be comfy with the switch. :ok:

ironbutt57 17th Sep 2013 04:16

During my more than several adventures to Kabul, I discovered that the least of my worries was a rocket attack, rather the multitude of military/contractors flying around all over the place, and the sometimes fickle weather to be the biggest points of concern...enjoy it!!

Oh...and say hello to leelo and stich for me...you will meet them on final:}

michaeljpotter 17th Sep 2013 05:21

You will find most insurance companies will also not pay out also for Iraq should g*d forbid anything happen.

Mr Good Cat 17th Sep 2013 07:43

The threat level at KBL is no different to that at PEW, which we already fly to on the 777. Rocket attacks regularly close the airport.

Only difference is the daily rotation. Feeling sorry for the few 340 rated guys... I'm sure when the 350 arrives it won't get used anywhere near these holes :ooh:

Payscale 17th Sep 2013 08:05

OK you lot...back into the SIM and practise Khe San approaches:cool:
