QR FURNITURE ALLOWANCE

Hi there!

I would like someone to confirm if there is any furniture allowance to move your furniture from your countrry to DOH.

If so, how much?

How does it works the furniture allowance to buy furniture in DOH?

Best Regards,

Dont use Pickfords

All I'll say is, if you ship stuff out, don't use Pickfords. Took 40% longer than agreed and at this end an additional 20% cost even though I paid "door to door".

Not the cheapest either, I thought they had a good reputation so paid slightly over the odds and then some!

Thanks for the info, do you know if there is company accomodation available now for new joiners?

If not, with the 12,500 housing allowance what can I get for a 3 kids family?

What neightborhood you recommend? Why?

I do really want to take mi furniture to DOH to rent unfurnished, do you know any company to do the job?

Best Regards

3 kids in Doha...!
Be aware mr White you will have to put you hand deep into your pocket for the school fees.
What QR give is not enough, especially for high school.
School fees in doha ( for international school)are ridiculously expensive.

3 kids in Doha

..and the housing allowance will not cover the cost of a villa big enough for a family of 5. Hope you get suitable company accommodation - though you don't get to choose the location of that so may not be near enough to schools.

When you say that if you coming as a NTR Capt you will get a Villa.........is that some kind of rule or you are just guessing?

As far as I know all new joiners are getting housing on arrival. Captains are entitled to villa although I had a friend who joined recently...they had no villas available so gave an apartment in meantime.
I joined in January as DEC and was given a 3 bedroom apartment at holiday villa. We actually like it and decided not to move, however I arrived with 3 kids and was given 3 bedroom....many of my classmates arrived alone and have no family and were assigned a 5 bedroom villa......seems to be very little thought given to the situation
My daughters are going to an international school...one is 5 and one 15. The price is 30,000 and 48,000 this year.

To the poster who said you could furnish a house from Ikea for QR15,000. I think this is quite misleading. I'm in the process of buying some furniture from there and I've priced out a well equipped living room and a master bed room with admittedly not the cheapest but quite reasonably priced items, and I would think that QR15,000 wouldn't be enough for a family. You would be looking closer to 25,000 to 30,000.

Having said that when I look at how much I save vs. taking a Furnished apartment I think its a good deal to go Unfurnished, especially with Ikea now in town. Before the Swedes came and set up shop you would either find ridiculously expensive furniture or ridiculously cheap furniture, both in price and quality. And just remember when you leave you can sell it all as well, and there are lots of people out there who look for expat leaving sales, they usually come in and buy everything.

Tuition cost will vary depending on your school of choice. Since your location is in the U.S., the link below is the tuition cost for Texas A&M at Qatar to give you an idea of the cost. I would venture to say, all universities will have similar tuition cost.

This are the list of foreign universities in Qatar...

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar
College of North Atlantic Qatar
Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar
HEC Paris
Northwestern University in Qatar
Stenden University Qatar

Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar
Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar
