No way does TC order 92 money losers.
Why not?

Sorry, but I don't share your faith in the infallibility of TC or any managers, anywhere. They made a big bet and it would seem to be more precarious than they let on. The fact that the whale purchase seemed to be based more on ego as much as anything else tells me it may not end so happily.

But hey only time will tell.

TC started ordering the whale 8 years before it came into service.

And as I mentioned in my post - first mover & bailout.

First movers pay the least....and the bailout order in 2009 was no better.

whole thread seems to be missing the point , a very large profit was made again, 30 big gas guzzlers with all their associated costs would surely have dragged it right down ? add in the other fleet of ULR airbuses not being used for what they were bought for as being gas guzzlers must be costing, yet still a very big profit again.

Putting aside the "My ones bigger than yours" crap.
IMHO
I believe the cause for the lack of profit share is a) allocation of funds to lower available profit and b) the slapping on of ridiculous amounts of ADD FUEL on top of STAT CONT on nearly every OFP.

Roughly 400 flights a day wilt a significant number being loaded with un-needed ADD FUEL.

The amount of money being thrown away out of the tailpipes just to carry ADD FUEL is staggering.

Guys,

Can we please stop this A380 is that and B777 is the other routine its pointless, the company has bought them and they are here.

This thread needs to be kept alive with the real issue, which is the company made a stonking great profit and kept it for those at the top and to pay off Dubai's great debts.

Will Dubai's debts come back to haunt them, possibly there are a lot of empty houses/apartments out there despite what the newspapers tell us, however the owners want astronomical amounts of money. This will lead to people being unable to afford to live here and so possibly the crash will re-occur?

The other issues as I see it, are we have been given a 0.5% pay rise. When the cost of living is many times that. My Kids school are in the process of upping their fees 5%, if you have a decent landlord they can up the rent 5%, these are just two examples of an increase of ten times ours.

Emirates has paid for, in a round about way for the DXB police to have Lambo's and Ferraris as patrol cars etc.

The upshot is this, most staff really don't care about Emirates now, we are not and for a long time, have not been part of the Emirates family that they like to talk of.

Will they make a profit this financial year yes, will it be as much as it would have been if we felt valued and were prepared to give it our all no, will we ever see some PS again unlikely.
Will they win awards this year yes, best salt and pepper pot in the Middle East which will be portrayed in the company magazine as having been awarded at some prestigious event. Have we won any meaningful award for years ?

All airlines have their day remember Pan Am, TWA , BA the list goes on that in their hey day ruled the roost, and now languish to survive or are no longer in business. Where are Emirates now I don't know are they still on the way to the top, or have they reached it, and if they have reached it where are we heading now.

I joined this company several years ago and to start with was looking to make this my final career move. However like a lot of others I feel my contractual increment ( On worthless contract) is not my pay rise, now like a lot of others I'm looking at what else is out there.

Perhaps it only needs the Execs of THY or China to realise that if they pay well and more importantly treat people well, then there is a whole stream of experienced pilots out here who will come running.
