Interesting. I recently heard rumors about issues with certain iPad batteries overheating and in some cases causing fire (?) and that this had lead to certain EU/EASA countries stopping the iPad from gaining approval.....

Anyone here that can confirm this?

Let's see what the Indian run IT department (with their Windows "blinders" on) has to say about this.

I bet it doesn't happen

Yada,
I can't see how its the IT departments fault for Apple not being compatible with applications. Wouldn't that be an Apple problem? Its not as if anything has changed since you Mac'ed up.

Don,

Isn't it up to the IT department to design programs to work as required? Others have done it without the whining, kicking and screaming that they do here...

They have managed to write a few apps for iPhone/ipad.

Yada,

But doesn't the portal state the min requirements are all windows based? If you have that (ie a PC) everything works right? I don't think the computer nerds decide that by themselves, its a company directive.
The software for flight bags, rostering, etc are from third parties, not written by EGIT, they just support it.
So I would suggest that if you acquired a computer that does not meet the min requirements, when those min requirements are stated, the problem wouldn't be with EGIT would it?
Perhaps you should aim your angst at APPLE who seem unable to provide computers that can be used for the things you want.

Just saying.

Install VMware + Windows and voila! A PC in your Mac. Too simple.

Worst of both worlds

I think you've missed the point completely Don. It isn't about complaining when an Apple computer won't work with some Windows server. Even though it's lousy IT and particularly disgraceful given the amount of resources thrown at EK IT, you are correct, no one promised anything other than tired old Windows would be compatible.

No, what I think Yada and the original poster were trying to point out was that there actually are better options out there and perhaps a company trying to portray itself as a leader could actually take a look at them. I get it, they've invested heavily in Microsoft tech but MS isn't the way forward. When was the last time someone pulled out some HP or Acer clunker laptop on the crew bus to review a flight plan or read an FCI? lol

Your statement about Apple computers not being able to do what you want only displays your lack of experience with them, and might have had a grain of truth to it in oh, 1996. Apple has come on a bit since then in case you haven't noticed...

Nolimit,

I think I have missed the point. Wasn't it an APPLE user complaining that he needs the company to change so he can use his computer? No problems with a PC, so wouldn't it be that the APPLE doesn't do what he wants it to do? Can't see it any other way really.

When was the last time someone pulled out some HP or Acer clunker laptop on the crew bus to review a flight plan or read an FCI? lol

A very strong and nicely presented argument. You are correct, we should all buy the Mac and then spend more money on it to make it work like a PC.

I think Halas says it best.

PS. What is it with Boeing drivers and Mac owners?

If the company has specific requirements for the computers we use for work applications you would think they would issue us with hardware that meets those requirements or support as wide a range of hardware as possible. I think the only thing that is supported at the moment is XP and Explorer 7.

Just saying (and dreaming).

Nah mate the 380 is even worse, shinyappleitis is a disease there, most of them can't even work out their ULR rest strategies without an app to do it for them.

Saying that Apple's genius is just like Boeing's, designed by brilliant people to be used by errr... not so brilliant people

Post of the Week...

Now don't try to foist your mac garbage upon the 777 world... Just as PC is to Boeing (functional and professional), so is Apple is to Airbus - limp-wristed half-measures for the simple-minded or those without the cash to purchase the industry standard.

It's no coincidence the entire business world (except apple HQ) uses windows/PC instead of something named after a "fruit".

No its not called "Fly smart with airbus" but if you search for "airbus" you should see two apps, one called "Airbus Perfo" and the other called "Airbus OLB". These are the two apps that make up the EFB.

Right now there is only two demo airports available on the Performance App, its pretty straightforward, its exactly the same as the LPC NG format, same variables ETC. But its a little better designed.

Its cool, it'll be nice to be able to have all the manuals available on one app that will constantly update itself, instead of having to sift through versions to find which one is current etc.
