Middle East VVIP Operation (Oman Royal Flight?)

Apparently Omani VVIP royal flight is not the land of milk and honey it once was - anyone heard anything else. Colleague went for interview for C130 job and was tempted till he saw the housing complex - indescribably bad apparently? Tempted - but anyone with any hot poop? Housing, pay rates, flying rates etc. Is it true all the stovies are leaving for omanair?

Yes the accomodation is really bad. They are digging up everyones gardens and replacing hedges and trees with 6 foot walls the place is a mess.
The accomodation itself is below standard, very dated, tired, damp and mouldy. Repairs and maintenance workers supplied by the lowest bidding contractor so you get the lowest possible standard of work.
The club and the pool - closed for refurbishment.

The pay is 60,000 sterling a year with a 20% gratuity after two years if you can stand it. Payrise promised for two years but not forthcoming.

Some Omani Gulfstream pilots have wanted to leave to join Oman Air but were blocked by management.

A lot of the Omanis are unhappy about the management but nothing is being done and there is a lot of unrest.

Many families have come to look at the complex before accepting positions and decided that they could not possibly live in such dire accomodation.

Wives are not allowed to work. If they do somehow manage to work they have to give up their right to ticket allowances and health cover.

The health cover exempts some very, very important things so getting your own private cover is essential.

I came, I saw, I scarpered!

Yeah....thanks missus. Curiosity got the better of me and I went for the chat and the visit. Not sure what exactly put me off - the Spielberg war-film set that is supposed to be the MQ compex - what on earth are they doing - or the crew room banter which reminded me of Lyneham in its last hours! I got the distinct feeling that the royal flight is a toxic brand ranked below even the Kings camel corps regimental band, in the order of precedence.

No thanks, not for me!
