Qatar Airways to Benghazi, Libya

Qatar Airways will start a 4 x weekly operation to Benghazi, Libya, commencing on 1st November, I.e. In six days from now! Sudden start up.

With mix of A319 and A320 equipment.

Also nice to see the A340-600 in Dublin undergoing a paint job, having the newer logo painted on (smaller oryx on tail). one assumes these aircraft will now stay on in the fleet indefinitely, as opposed to being disposed. Shortage of equipment for opening new routes?

flying to Libya is nothing new for QA. we have been operating to Tripoli since early 2004, only stopped because of the no fly zone and the dangers associated with the conflict.
the majority of our passenger profile on those flight were passengers destine for Benghazi.

good to see that a bit of travel freedom comes to those in that country, not to mention the many thousands of those who live abroad and could only watch as their families endured the civil unrest.

i'm sure scheduled cargo flights will soon follow.

Yes, it is noble to re-open flights to Libya ... and a very good strategic first step for future freighter ops!
