Besides - the A v B is a great fishing expedition isn't it To be brutally honest I think the Boeing is agricultural

Are we all having fun now?

I love these debates. You actually learn some interesting nuggets of information about each type. Belittling or ribbing a 777-300ER pilot is not something you hear everyday - I guess only an A380 or 744/8 pilot could give it a go. Given that I have been flying old, analog, archaic aeroplanes myself, I could only hope to fly such advanced aeroplanes in the future - AND I'LL TAKE EITHER BOEING OR AIRBUS LONGHAUL IF YOU LET ME...

Yet again a slagging match between Airbus and Boeing! Professional Pilots and this is how we act! Its embarrassing!! I went on the Airbus because I had no choice. I transitioned to the 380 because I could. Give me the opportunity and I would quite happily go to the 777. Its about career prospects and lifestyle. As for the piece of machinery i really could not care less!!

They are both long haul aluminum tubes. As many 777's are coming as 380's. Wherever you go you will have enough to bitch about.......

As a slight drift but interesting trivia, the 380 bunks were indeed originally designed to be where 380 says- at the front. Where they are now on EK aircraft is solely down to preserving cargo space- other airlines opted for the factory-standard crew rest.

From a CC perspective I don't care what the aircraft is as long as it gets me there in one piece- however the type & layout with regard to ease of service & effect on passengers' moods may often dictate my mood on arrival!

Having flown 330/340 & 777:

As a pilot I'd rather fly the Airbus.
For the lifestyle I'd rather be on the Boeing.

For the future, I'd take the 380. It'll get the weight increase for the West coast, it'll take all the morning European destinations and it won't do many night turns.

I miss the table and a modern FMS interface/SOPs

Helen,

"Having flown 330/340 & 777:

I flew the above plus 737,757 and 767, had many opportunities to go back on the 777 but didn't because I like the Airbuses better and the lifestyle is pretty good on the 380, I think it will even get better for a while.

I think the pax like it very much too, so whats the problem with it besides the bunks that were screwed up by EK?

You say you do not care about the whale yet I bet you would love to be on it. Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me?

How many do EK have to get for your turn to come up?

Okay, so as a new joiner in the not to distant future. I gave my preference for the airbus fleet. Partly because I have 3000+ airbus 320 experience and I like the Airbus. But also because I figured, the a330 and 340 should leave the company in the future and the chance of moving on to the a350 or the a380 in a few years time are pretty good.
It just seems logical for airbus pilots to stay on the bus fleet instead of moving to the 777.

correct me if I'm wrong..... I might still be able to change my preference

ok.....disregard logic.....

At least it would be more cost effective as an airbus type change is bound to be cheaper then an all new 777 rating.....

doesnt matter....I'm happy either way.
It's just that if I know I might be transferred to the 777 later on I might as well go for it now and enjoy the apparent slightly better life style.

you can have FCO (Rome, Italy for those who don't fly there) and the crappy location airport hotel. Although all the free booze in the exec lounge almost makes it worth it

I have to say that the way EK generally tends to get good load factors on the A380's must come as quite a shock to many of EK's competitors for whom this is becoming quite the nightmare that they dreaded! I mean who would have thought that EK would be flying A380's into Rome and Zurich if this was said 10 years ago!

Years ago, airlines were so scepticle on how EK would fill loads on all their A330's and B777's.............quite something when you think about it!

ya...the booze and maybe the fact that it's one of the most amazing places on earth...

but, hey, we're just glorified bus drivers and booze is all that counts, right?

GMC,
are you one of these guys who spent their life in the hotel to save the allowance?

Try to catch the FREE shuttle in the city and look at the 3000 year old sites, its worth it, if you don't have any interest in cultural stuff, try to eat real italian food, if that doesn't tempt you either then maybe you should bid for turns.

Only a few more I imagine - probably next year sometime. Actually, when I said I couldn't care less, it was about the petty comments from our 'light twin' brethren (777). It is a marvellous bit of engineering
