"Illegal Items in Dubai"
Depends entirely on if the chick at customs in arrivals is texting her friends or not!!!
Did not know about the cordless phone thing, weird.

Why would anyone from Western Europe (or the civilised world for that matter) want to go there?
Shut up stupid; I forgot about the money. Still, wouldn't want to go there for all the tea in China. I like to hold Mrs Elpus's hand when we are out and give her the odd peck on the cheek.

Scanners are illegal.
The big picture in Dubai is that the letter of the law is very difficult to define. It's sort of like a jet stream. It's there, and you know it's there, you're just not sure exactly where it is and what kind of rough ride you will get out of it.
Basically the place is like El Dorado, and everyone is trying to get away with whatever thay can any way they can. It's a free-for-all. Do what you want. Just don't get caught with some dope.

Medications
On the subject of "illegal"...
does anyone have a list of medications that are allowable to be taken (as aircrew in the UAE, operating for a UAE airline) either prior to or during a duty, whether by prescription or not...
I have tried the GCAA website and also the company portal, however trying to get a straight answer out of company doctors is proving to be a bit of a task!!!
I've been suffering through a bit of seasonal cold/flu type thing and have been told "Panadol and rest" - well and good if I don't have to slog through a long duty day. (Yes, I know I can call in SK if not fit to fly but unfortunately if I want an upgrade any time soon that's not really an option more than once or twice a year, plus I can equalise the ears with no hassles)
I know anything ending in "-eine" is a no-go (as is anything that could be "fun" ) but- is there any kind of publication ANYWHERE as there is in say, Australia as to what is go, no-go, and allowed under dr's orders?
I have been here long enough to understand that the goalposts can move often, however I'm on my fourth sleepless night and pretty sure another is to follow tonight so any help appreciated
Cheers

If your sick, your sick. 4 sleepless nights and you still want to not call sick? Do you think substandard performance due to feeling under the weather will not have an adverse effect on your command?
I am sure the Captain you have to sit next to will really appreciate you making him sick as well.

I wasn't looking for a lecture I was looking for some answers, yes I know the policy of calling in sick.... if I thought my performance would impact safety then of course I will call sick (I am reserving judgement until prior to my next duty)
I too hate people coming to work 'sick' and giving it to me however the clinic seem to think I am now okay, I just wanted to know if there is any definitive list so next time I can just take something and be rid of it instead of being too scared to have anything more than a Panadol....

Not sure if this qualifies as a "List of Lists" for medications that are not supposed to exist in the UAE unless prescribed by an UAE doctor ( NOTE : You can have a banned medication, if it was prescribed by a UAE "Hospital" ... usually in extreme cases and usually at the hospital )
If someone has a better list "approved by the nice people from the EK-Castle on Airport Road", please share.
Welcome to the land where you can get a "prescription" however cannot , "officially" buy a drink at Barasti without a valid "Liquor License".
Whats illegal in EKistan ? > "Common Sense"
Note: Anyone can always call this guy

Illegal Item number one: Putting your (male) hands on a lady's bum is illegal in Dubai. If you happen to be Fillipino and the lady in question is Emirati, that's worth 3 years in jail. (from an article in 7days yesterday)
Illegal Item number two: Kidnapping and gang raping a woman. If you happen to be a group of Emiratis and the victim is an English expat woman, that's worth one year in jail.
Illegal Item number three: Balanced court decisions and equal justice for all in the UAE.

Doooh (as Homer would say)..I pulled yesterday's copy of 7days out of the trash to find you're exactly right GSN. I prostrate myself on the ground and offer my humblest apologies. My only feeble excuse for misreading the facts would be fatigue from too many night turns.
"rather stay quiet and have people think you're an idiot than open your mouth and remove all doubt"
Still rubbish court decisions though

So... did he get the 3 years for checking out the goods OR for the fact that he was described as being "drunk" at the time?????
Next minute they'll be asking why she was out at that time (probably the only 'time off' she gets!!!)

Never prostrate your self, on a Friday night, close to the 311, as you never know your luck...
