OUCH! - DEWA up by 37%

DEWA electricity bill for last month has risen by 37% - water wasn't as bad, that was 'only' up by 24%

With the oil price looking set to rise due to the the unrest spreading across the Middle East looks like utility bills are only going to keep going up this year.

It is going to take a lot of people a lot closer to the 21,600 Dhs cap. I don't suppose that will go up as well.

Jet II DEWA's fuel of choice for its combined desal/power plants is gas - mostly supplied from Sharjah. They'll use forms of oil fuel only as a fall back.

But whatever the costs are still likely to keep going up.

hey guy's I received my bill today- also up approx 40 percent?.
Phoned dewa to confirm what the new "dewa housing fee" is on the bill?
It now seems to be enforced and is based on 5 percent of annual rent / divided by the 12 month billing statements.
Knew this was coming at one some stage, but not good news.
What i don't get is how they seem to be randomly billing selected people this fee??.. it seems like a lottery billing system!.
Who ever said dubai was tax free!!!!
Greener pastures are beckoning!.

Outbound.

I have been paying housing fee for 6 years in my own house. That about 60000 AED, while my friend across the street never paid a dime.... we are both expats! Go figure..

New Housing Fee

If you have been paying Housing Fee for a while it's worth going to DEWA head office near Citibank (Wafi) and checking it's correct.
Used to be 1% (Aprox) of Purchase price but that has changed and now is either 5% of rental contract or if you own and live in the property it's 5% of RERA predicted rental income.
As rents have dropped so much you are probably paying too much.
In my case 500aed a month more than I should have been paying.
It took 5 mins and they changed it on the spot. He also said they would back date the 500aed for 6 months but I've not see that yet!
There is a small room through a doorway to the right of the main counters.

Good luck

The issue we have with EK is that EK reneged on its contractual obligation to pay all utilities.

Sorry to hear that you don't get any utility payments but to say we are whinging is a little presumptuous. Its in our contract and we are sick of getting ripped of by Dubai Inc.

That's the spirit...!!!
Drag everybody down, I'm truly sorry that you get #$%^ all, but wishing everybody down cause you don't have, is hardly the best way to improve things.....

Moggiee, the cap was set as the "average" consumption, which means roughly half the people in company housing would be above it already. The management say that average consumption has come down but I imagine the increase will put a lot of people over the cap. So far there has been no word about the cap going up.

If I was a cynical person I wouldn't be surprised if there was no word and no increase.

Moggiee, not only don't you work for the airline under discussion here, you don't work for any airline. What on Earth makes you think you are qualified to express an opinion on this thread?

Moggiee,

Congrats!!! You have the dubious distinction of being the first person on pprune put on my ignore list!

I encourage you to keep on talking sh1t about things you know little about with regards to our contract. Feel free to get upset when the majority who read this board become upset with your views and voice their displeasure. Please post your pathetic retort... I'll never see it.

Public forum or not, you are still a douche. Do us all a favor and stick to your own industry if you don't like our brand of a bitchfest... it's what we log on for.

Love,
FP

Take it easy on Moggiee! He has the right to express his displeasure of us getting housing and utility allowances. Tough luck Moggiee either you should change employer or renegotiate your contract.

So you consider Dubai a hellhole, yet it irks you that people who live there remark negatively about aspects of living there? Why is there just simply NO critical thinking ability in the Middle East?

Sorry you're too thick to comprehend that the issue under discussion isn't lack of "happiness" with one's contract, but a simple desire to actually have it followed.

Perhaps you should head off to another internet forum representing some other community you aren't a part of either and let them know how great they have it as well. Your work here is done.

Agree with Mogs. He, or she, is entitled to their view, pilot or not. There are plenty of forums here, open to all to add personal viewpoints and join discussions. Whether we agree or not, asking them to leave a public forum is childish and niave.

If you really only want EK pliots whinging about EK stuff, go join the dedicated Emirates forum. Problem is, few of you have the balls to do so. Too paranoid about who might hold the 'identity key' no doubt.

Didn't say that anyone couldn't share their opinion or viewpoint. I was stating that credibility becomes an issue when you make illogical contradictory statements about something you know nothing about.

Not that this prevents anyone from posting, of course. See moggiee's posts, (above).

As far as not posting in the dedicated Emirates forum, fearing who "holds the keys" would seem to indicate the presence of a brain rather than the lack of balls. This is of course only my opinion and viewpoint.

I have long thought that this forum should be renamed "Champagne" - after all, it is one of the great whine regions of the world.
