Anyone in Mirdif? What's accommodation like?

I've just returned to DXB to live for the second time and have been doing the rounds of property, viewing lots in JLT and the Marina. However, I note that Mirdif - which I remember as being the back of beyond way back when - is quite built up. The properties for rent appear reasonably priced but I suspect that is a function of proximity to airport. Can anyone advise their experience?

Sure - I lived here 10 years ago when it was "the back of beyond" and am now back again.

Everything depends on your requirements - we are homebodies who don't head out downtown too often - hence the lack of concern at being somewhat removed from the more popular areas of town. That being said, Mirdif has grown up a lot and, since the opening of the city centre mall, there is no longer any need to drive across town to go shopping - on the contrary, colleagues from elsewhere come here, as it's much quieter and easier to get to.

As far as airport noise goes, you have to pick the area very carefully - many villas are under / v. close to the approach to 30L - the further towards Mushrif park/airport road, generally, the better. Beware though, when I was in temporary accommodation, I found the traffic noise from the nearby street to be much worse than aircraft noise.

Of course, there is also the added benefit of a 10 minute commute to work!

Feel free to pm for more details, if required.

Adieu,

Guy.

Lived there for five years. Not a bad community and with the new Mirdif City Centre mall even great retail. Staying north of 71st street will protect you from the noise of an IL76 at acceleration altitude (brown mosque plus 50').

All the IL76s have been banished to Dubai World Central now so Mirdif should be a much quieter place these days.

IL 76 sitting outside DXB freight centre this morning!
Went to view a few there yesterday, one more today. I note that landlords do not bother tarting up properties for viewing, leaving until a contract is agreed before cleaning the place up. Thanks for updates.

I'm living right under the flight path of 30L and believe me the IL76 are no longer operating into DXB, they stopped around Nov 2010. Not a bad place to live

And close by you have Mushrif Park. The only park in Dubai in which there is a dedicated cycle track - very nice - not all flat either. Without the IL76s there's nothing wrong with Mirdif. Loads of very nice villas on a huge estate adjacent to the park - but they're not yet on the market because the District Cooling Plant hasn't yet been built. One day .....

Ahhh Dubaian! You just cleared something up for me there!

I was under the false impression that those villas were lying idle because of the property crash.
I like those villas......and like Mirdif City Centre......quiet and unrushed.

One thinks a permanent move to Dubai is on the cards soon.

Farrell as you come down the winding hill from Mirdif City Centre roundabout, towards Al Warqa, the DCP site is on the right hand side. Been a while since I looked but only the piling work had started then. Gonna take some time to build and commission the plant. Meantime all these lovely villas lying idle. Plus huge blocks of apartments on the same side of the road as the DCP.

Great planning Dubai Municipality.

Planning does not come into it when you have more money than sense!
