Qatar CEO Blasts Boeing - "787 a Failure" - Maybe ordering more A380s
Wow, the Qatar CEO certainly does not mince words. Good for him. The 787 delays are costly for all customers and they are unacceptable. It is good that he is adding pressure to Boeing.
The CEO also mentioned Qatar may be ordering more A380s beyond the original 5 orders. When is the first A380 expected on the line? Looks like the Bombardier C-Series might be out of the picture too... Perhaps if Canada opens up it's market more, C-Series orders could be on the way... Al Baker sounds like a pretty good negotiator.
Boeing Dreamliner 'a failure', says Qatar Airways boss
The chief executive of Qatar Airways has criticised Boeing over delays to the 787 Dreamliner, reportedly saying that it has "clearly failed". Akbar Al Baker said he had been "taken aback" by the problems that have plagued the delivery of the aircraft, the Reuters news agency reported. Meanwhile, Boeing has announced it is revising its schedule after a fire on a test flight earlier this month.
It had hoped to begin delivering the plane at the start of next year.
'Foreign debris' Production of 787s is about three years behind schedule, with delays mainly a result of the supply and fitting of parts. A test flight had to be aborted on 9 November after a fire broke out on board. Boeing has blamed a piece of "foreign debris" in a power panel. Qatar Airways has ordered a minimum of 30 Dreamliners, with the first due to be delivered in the last quarter of next year.
Speaking at a news conference in Paris, Mr Al Baker said he had not expected such delays from Boeing, because the US-based company had "pride in its quality". "They have very clearly failed," he added.
He added that Qatar Airways was considering buying more Airbus A380s on top of the five already ordered from Boeing's arch-rival.
Mr Al Baker was also critical of Bombardier of Canada, which has been trying to break Boeing's and Airbus' stranglehold of the airliner production business. He said Qatar Airways had been forced to cancel a planned order for the company's C-Series planes in July over concerns about their engines. "If they do not roll up their sleeves pretty fast then the [new Airbus A320] NEO will eclipse them," he warned.

380 has same problems, but at least you can see her flying with/for someone!
787 yesterday was late, today looks like a failure (outsourcing problems ... don't care, as long as they fix the d*** f*** plane!). With the circumstances, that is what ANA CEO should have said.

The A380 would not be a suitable replacement for delayed 787s, totally different category. The only likely replacement hasn't even flown yet!
Qatar are just ramping it up to improve the compensation payout or get the overall price reduced.

Correct Mr Parabellum , which compounds the problem , as the airlines squeeze the manufacturers , so B and A have to find ways to cut costs . All concerned need to take a long hard look at themselves before aviation enters a dark period with regular 'accidents' and the public go back to their 60s/70s trepidations .
Aviation accountants are from the same gene pool that have screwed the whole world up banking wise.

He can fit more cabin crew onto the A380 anyway - more cabin crew means more phone numbers to get and more harassment to perform.
A sleazeball of the highest order. Would love to punch him one.

Saw him interviewed on the BBC Business Report a while back. When asked "How many airplanes would you like to see Qatar Airlines operating in 20 (I forget the year)", his answer was: "One more than Emirates".
Ya... right. That's a viable business plan...

Now I remember those arrogant idiots at Boeing saying the 787 would be certified in record time.... That was how many YEARS ago?
I think that was when they were laughing at EADS for the late delivery of the A380, as said above which one is flying? Which one is delivering massive revenue for the operators that have it?
I want to see when the carbon fiber flop takes its first fuselage strike from a catering truck at a 3rd world destination.

So this is another exemple of PPruners jumping into conclusions without doing their homeworks by simply asking anyone working in the planing department.
