Qatar skytrax awards

in The top airlines award, Qatar is number 3.

best business class, number 1

best economy, number 2

by region, Middle East, number 1

The only category that it was beaten by another Middle East airline is best First Class, Etihad has that title.

The reason I am posting this is because of the following: From reading posts on here and talking to pilots working in the ME, between Qatar, Etihad, and Emirates, Qatar is the worst place to work at. So how is that an airline with the least favorable place to work has the most awards? Doesn't bad place to work translate into unhappy employees and bad service?

It's all smoke and mirrors buddy!!!

Just means Qatar paid more money to bribe the people who decide. Try another magazine and they'll have an entirely different list probably.

Don't read too much into it....

actually, my opinion on Qatar is not based on what I have read here. It is based on the following:

You get placed on the A320 schedule. you get 8 days off, if lucky it becomes 10 if you get an overnight in Europe. Only 2 overnights, Vienna and Stockholm? all the rest are out and back?

For the days you get off, you are in Doha, very boring and not a place for a single guy.

When inline at customs, whenever I saw a Qatar crew, I asked their opinion of the place. I've yet to meet someone that gave me a positive response. All have answered in the most professional manner, but some even went on to say, wait to get on with Emirates, and one actually told me he wants to pay the bond to get out of his contract and go to another airline.

I also spoke to 1 A320 pilot and this is what he said "come here only if you need the money. If I can make $5000 net in the US, I'd go back in the heartbeat" This is from a guy who is actually from the ME region and moved there to be close to family.

I also spoke to 2 pilots at Emirates, and they are pilots that I have flown with at the company I work for now. They love it there.

I soke to another friend who works at Etihad on the A320 and just moved on the A330. He said "Qatar is a bad place to work at, go there only if you can use it to jump ship to Emirates or Etihad later on"

So maybe it's a minority on here that think low of Qatar, but in my world, it has been 100% negative.

"you get place on the 320 schedule.."..right on spot jet!
Most of the guy who came here and tell the guy to stop complaining are probably the "lucky"one who join straight on 330 or 777 enjoying "holliday roster" and who by-passed the A-320 Senior Hard working guy with minimum rest, minimun days off and max duty roster..

QR: Still A 5-Star Wannabe . . . .

From a passenger perspective the carrier is NOT up to 5-star quality.

Primarily, the terminal at DOH is a joke. It's nothing but a big bus terminal with mediocre restaurants.

There are No jet bridges: Pax are having to be bussed miles to remotely parked airplanes.

While waiting to board busses, pax are crammed "downstairs" in holding gates with inadequate seating. . . and diesel fumes and hot outside air makes you want to slap somebody.

And a self proclaimed "5-star" carrier serving meals in economy class with plastic cutlery....? Hellooooo.

Qatar has a lot of catching up to do to achieve 5-Star status.

Luckily for Qatar Airways Airport infrastructure and passengers facilities are not included for attribution of "stars.."...!! IMHO it should!
Glueball beside the airport fiasco..i'm much more concern about the ATC here.(another Fiasco )...a single frequency that overload the ATC controller..not a single STAR....traffic flow...

Kijangnim:
A-320 roster can be EASILY improved at least a little..:
THE problem is that we still have a lot of training AND whats bother me is that most of the training flight have GOOD schedule (daytime&evening time for most of them) and even some good layover in Europe!!!
We have so MANY night flights here (india, gulf area..) we have to share the cake...!!Everybody should Do those flight including training flight!!
Have sometime the feeling that the airspace beyond Muscat on A-320 fleet is a "no flight zone" for training flight!
So simple as that...!

Thanks for the info loc22550. Do you have loads of layover on the A320 or is it mostly there and back in Doha?

We do have some layovers..not the most exciting one..As the good one are taken by training captain and/or training flight or by some ""lucky"" guys..so at the end you got whats left behind..
Indian layover: you can get as much as you want..just bid for: TVM-COK-HYD-MAA-CCJ-BLR.(dont forget your mosquito repellant spray!)
IF you are lucky: VIE-BCN-TXL-CMB-MLE-DAR-NBO-SEY-DME :coming soon: BUD-STR..
Don't get impress by the "good" layover you might not see those destinations on your roster for more than 6 months+.. except during your line training...

Why aren't you a training captain?
You could apply for the position. Now I think it's closed.
