Saud is Ras Al Khaimah ruler as UAE mourns Shaikh Saqr
Thanks to the Gulf news
"His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi has been appointed Supreme Council member and new ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
All government institutions in Ras Al Khaimah will remain closed for seven days and flags will fly at half mast for 40 days.
Shaikh Saqr's funeral prayers will be performed after Asr prayers on Wednesday at the Ras Al Khaimah Eid musalla. May Almighty Allah rest his soul in peace.
Shaikh Saqr belonged to the Al Qasimi dynasty that ruled the northern part of the Greater Oman Region, following the fall of Ya’aribah state and emergence of Al Busayidi state in Suhar and Muscat in 1747.
He was born in Ras Al Khaimah city in 1920, where he was brought up in an Islamic Arabic environment under the care of his father, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Salim, who ruled the emirate between 1917-1919."

sec 3
nicely put, sensitive, etc
Your not caring really touches all of our hearts, thank you.
It was from the newspaper; nor were they my condolences.
As it does affect the Middle East I thought it may be informative to interested parties.

Casino Closure early '70's
Casino Closure early '70's
Is the New guy the one that closed RAK's Casino in the early '70's?
Allegedly, One of the Royal family/entourage took objection to the Casino - more on account of his losses than on religious/moral grounds
Closure allegedly involved brandishing of AK's (or similar), emptying of Casino and then a couple of Thermite bombs

Surely what comes to mind here is the old saying "If you can't speak well of the dead, say nothing".
For my part I do take more than a passing interest of the UAE and Middle East in general. At age 20 I was posted with the Army to Sharjah and enjoyed seeing the area as it was then, before oil helped in its development.
Having said that, what I was seeing was abject poverty and disease, but to me that was the true Arab world.
The people in the UAE are not all arrogant, sometimes the system is wrong, but the average man in the street is OK when you get talking to him. For those people working in the UAE its worth asking, after years of being there have you bothered to learn the language or any of the writing?
