Omanair Boeing B777?

Hi,

I heard rumour that Omanair is looking at buying 6 B777s from Japan. 2-3 of them would be used for cargo.

Anyone have more info on this?

This is not surprising at all as even PIA has approached JAL with an interest to purchase 3-4 Boeing 777-200 models in particular.

More news on the B777s

I spoke to a very reliable source today who told me that the Japanese Transport Minister had talks with Omani government about Omanair taking over 5 B777s. The first three will arrive end of 2010.

Currently no STC available for P2F conversion of the 777. That would have to be sorted out first. Boeing had some issues when designing the 777F, as the space between the stringers does not easily lend themselves to loading of 125 inch pallets. Quite a lot of modification was required, which leads me to belive a P2F conversion won't be cheap, and is possibly why no one has offered it yet.

why not

Oman Air is growing fast, and its thirsty for new destinations thus new aircrafts, or in other words more aircrafts. yes they have 787 orders, but till they come on 2013 or 2015 is a bit far. and if 777s are available in the market, then why not. they already have 5 330s from the 7 they orderd, the 6th should arrive in June and the 7th end of 2010. the word is they have 3 optional on top of the 7, and they are going for them. so i guess they should be coming in 2011.

I think Oman government is pumping loads of money to bring the airline up to a competitive state to compete with many giants in the region. and as i heard, they have a perfect product in the aircrafts.

well, wish Oman Air all the best. and hope they keep up the good work and image.

regards

New Info

Sorry to disappoint everyone but news is Omanair will NOT be getting B777s.
The company will not be ordering other aircraft. What we heard were rumours spread to keep pilots from leaving as last month 6 people resigned.
