Hopefully that re-union will take place in a dark alley and involve a lead pipe

ED was just a metastase. You cut this one out, the next one pops up somewhere else. You need to get to the root cancer to cure the patient.
AAR is the root.
But it's the lifestyle that mainly leads to cancer and that one is determined by TC and HHSA.
Who initiated the sackings (MEL, MAN) that lead to the outbreak of the actual malaise (and thus safety risk) in our ranks? Correct, TC. Such megalomaniacs will always find a retarded and sadistic gun to complete his cause.
Releasing the talking horse achieves nothing. Getting rid of retard might help a bit.
But it's a change in the whole managing concept that will lead to a cure, and along this to a safer and also more cost effective operation.
The likes of MF and TC have served their cause. They might have been great building up the company, but they have turned arrogant, spoiled and self centered. That's when the higher ranks should set in. They should builds them a monument, like naming a flying pig after MF, the CBC into Clark's BC and the adjacent Metro station the AR station and let them go. We need a different set of managers now.The ones that can sustain a good product by taking the employees along with them, motivating them to stay and sustain the companty, not just treating them as a unwelcome cost factor that can be manipulated at will by gone by guys who lost the plot.

Gents

Believe me, ED provides support for many pilots, this is a huge loss for all.

In the future, he'll be missed.

Too Soon To Rejoice

I recall being at a training meeting when it was anounced that the previous Manager of Flt Ops, Graham Jenkins, had been fired.

Cheers and jubilation followed but I remember thinking it was all too soon to celebrate. Who would be the replacement?

The final replacement was much worse. He did huge damage to pilots earning potential with "cost neutral" schemes that laid the groundwork for todays indiscriminate changes in both income and rostering.

Who will replace Ed? The position is open for a clever little ferret who will be behind a new bunch of cuts and changes that will hit all our pockets. The better he is at this the better he will do and the more entrenched he will become.

The smooth talking sycophant will smile as the knife goes deeper than before.

Idealism & Horses!

Yes, we all know that the talking horse (and his position) is little more than a facilitator of AAR's machinations;

Okay, in all likelyhood his replacement will be just as pathetic;

True, the sacrificial lamb for MEL was never going to be the 'pork man' AAR himself;

BUT - let's not shed a tear for the departure of this 'pseudo captain' whom:
  • Stood in front of all of us at some stage and lied;
  • Be counter-productive and downright manipulative during the accommodation debacle;
  • Was content with his mis-representation of his 'captaincy' status;
  • Issued time and time again incomplete and incomprehensible FCI's and other electronic rubbish;
  • Acted in the role of SVP Fleet, for a company that conducted ULH ops - with ZERO experience in that very role!
In fact, the only support/good thing he has done for us is.....nothing! Anyone care to specifically correct this?

We all strive for better - why can't they!

I understand that the fear of an 'even worse replacement' may well drive some of us to lament the mans' departure but if he represents the new benchmark of role-competency and our level of satisfaction with same, then we need to re-evaluate our standards.

Call me naive (yes I too have many years in the game) but I live in hope that his replacement will be better. Many say the decision is still out on the new training guy, - Then maybe, just maybe, the next SVP Fleet will have the same reaction AND AT THE VERY LEAST have some long haul wisdom!

Good riddance to the 'capt'!

...if they promote from within (unusual for EK, I know), I wonder if people will soon be making veiled comments along the lines of "you pay peanuts, you get... monkeys"? If you gi... get my drift?

The other rumour is that Engineering and Flight Operations are to be split into separate entities with AAR heading the Engineering side.

This (if true) leaves two positions available in Flight Ops.

It will also give AAR an arms length distancing away from the potentially dangerous and mysterious Flt Ops department that he must now admit he knows nothing about. (And l am not inferring that he knows anything about Engineering!)

Trouble is the new head of Flt Ops will have to be local and understand the position (the latter not being a requirement of the incumbent).

Will any of the never-see-them-never-hear-them fleet CP's be up for it?

Farewell Ed. I did enjoy your first stand at trying to change things around here, being the pick-up times. What a waste of time, effort and resources that turned out to be.
It's up there with TCAS changes to reserve rostering, though he got it through! And now has the original scheme back as well!

What a WIN - LOOSE situation!

One thing AAR does have on his side is that he remains a brother. His expertise shone bright when he headed up the Engineering Department and again we have seen his skills in the Flight Operations arena.

Unfortunately, brothers don't out brothers, especially when their own abilities may be questioned some time in the future. There must be a position for the troubled brother to take over which appears to be a promotional step.

Rumor has it that AAR may be heading to Fly Dubai. I'm sure his managerial and people skills will ensure a rosy future for our close cousins.

And to our comrade Ed, farewell and good riddance. I cannot believe a company such as EK would carry such a useless, self centered twit as you.

Anyone is better then Ed and I hope his retirement is full of sufficient time to reminisce about how loved he was by his work colleagues and aviation professionals. What an accomplished career!!

Agreed. I can accept that not everyone is blessed with the same level of people skills as others. But feeling my stomach churn with nausea as it would upon seeing another hateful, paternalistic, condescending, bull**** missive from Ed in the Inbox, I can't help but marvel at how someone with such pitifully lacking people skills ever managed to find himself in the position he is. I mean you would have to TRY, to expend effort, to come across that offensively.

It may be bad karma to wish ill on another person, but in his case I make an exception. I don't care for being lied to - particularly to my face - or to have my intelligence insulted so crudely. (Perhaps this is why my time in the ME has been less than a bed of roses?!)

The next fool may be just as bad but cannot without extreme effort be worse.

bye-bye. Since TCAS asked so nice, you will have exactly the same amount of support from me you have always had...

Trinity,

Best post I have ever seen on any of these forums (the second one...well, the first was good too). You hit the nail on the head.

I really must resist the temptation to post after a party.

Anyhow, glad to see him leave. He never was suitable for the job and he ranked as the least intelligent manager in all my years in airlines.
