School fees increase in Dubai

I find really interesting that in spite of the big crisis many schools in Dubai decided to increase the fees............
and the increase is not that light........ where my kids go the increase is 12%
I really don't know where this place is ending up.......

I think the logic goes something like..............

We have less students from whom to get the X amount of money from therefore the parents must pay more.

The ultimate end to this line of logic is if only one student remains then their fees will have to cover everything

Unfortunately what can we do, shipping my lot to the UK is simply unaffordable so maybe a quick word to the school about the REAL world may help, unlikely as Varki needs the cash to pay for his latest monstrosity.................................that has no students

So Flareflyer

yr kids are also in WIS ? First You have to pay a non returnable deposit for the last term, and than they raise without any prior announcement by 12%. So we are now 7000AED over the limit for allowance, no raise, no bonus this year. The sandpit becomes more and more unattractive.

I will have a word on sunday with them, and looks like to check for another school.

ASD

ASD up 5% for K1 (31,350 Dhs) and 9% for K2-12 (39,750 Dhs).
Seat "rental" (11,020 Dhs) and seat "assessment" (5,510 Dhs) remain the same.
76,230-pricy now to say the least.

Seat rental is a charge to hold your kid's position in the school. EK pays for a certain number but after the allotment is complete all underlings must pay out of pocket. Assessment. Don't know. My kid was assessed and accepted in a 10 minute interview, free.

Our school fees have gone up 15% in AD, so its time to show the school we do have a choice, and cant be taken for rich mugs. Its tough for the kids, but better for everyone in the long run.

There is going to be a huge surplus in school places soon with so many construction company staff getting pink slips.

Bin Liner,
have you ever taken math? You have no clue ! Every family in DXB has to pay out of pocket to put their kids in school regardless of what school. Read the manual and educate yourself.

School fees increase in the Gulf altogether

It's amazing how the schools make their budget plans. The only way is up...
There is no stability whatsoever.

You are absolutely right.

As selfrighteous as you are, and absolutely correctly so, I guess you will stay in the pit for retirement. With funds that you have provided for yourself entirely.
You would never go back to your civilised original country to benefit from all its solidarity institutions that are based on contributions from everybody (taxes) to benefit everybody (unemployment, pensions, free healthcare etc.)! The latter paied for by the then employed and working team. Just to remind you: These then working men and women are our actual brats, costing us heaploads of money now, more every year.

When you will be retired in here, may I then call you and we'll have Toddy?

Point

Guys,

i think that Ben can say what he thinks, we may disagree but we have to respect his point because otherwise we behave exactly as those we blame.

Now, back to the problem. I did not pay the initial fee to register the kids for the next year in WIS. I think we all should do the same and just tell them that this summer we will decide which school we want our children to attend.

I think we have to explain this .......... ( i can't even find the proper word to define them......) that, considering the situation specially in Dubai, we may have better offer from different institutions so we prefer to wait....

Right on Bin Liner

Amazing that guys can start calling someone else a tosser/etc and not realize how hypocritical they are.

Guys, he is correct in the fact that those of you with families DO get a different package then those without. Housing, allowances for schooling , and the travel benefits are somethings that are NOT shared equally.

You and the wifey wanted to have your rugrats....so be it.
Deal with the fact they cost money.

As selfrighteous as you are, and absolutely correctly so, I guess you will stay in the pit for retirement. With funds that you have provided for yourself entirely.
What do you care so much for GMDS? We are all here for the same thing, what makes you so much more special?

as ususal

I have no clou, how a simple question of a colleguage ends in a shameful discussion against workers with families.

Every one of us came in the sandpit to make money. When the package was ok for us we joined. Now it is not longer interesting to work in an unfriendly enviroment like Duabi, when the money is not right, or do U guys came for the sun and the cheap beer?

BTW , we don't see the school money, it's going direct to the school. Stay out of a discussion when it does not concern U and U don't give some helpful inputs.

PS: and yes he is a tosser

I am in no way special, nor did I claim it. By the way, I didn't call anyone a tosser.

Why do I care?
Simply because to sustain a civilised society we need children and education. Everyone, even the DINKS, need a sustained population or we face extinction or a very poor lifestyle when aging. So children are a blessing for EVERYONE, allthough not everyone can/wants to bear the burden to raise them.
Even back home workers with children have a different package. Through child-allocation or through tax-breaks. But even at home these parents face a higher financial burden than those who have no children. Be it by choice or not, it is a fact. As described above, it is to the benefit of all. Now I do not critcise anyone for choosing not to raise kids. I do not even criticise them for benefitting from our kids later, when the solidarity system sets in for them. That's what our civilisation achieved, it gives you a choice. But this does not imply choosing not to participate, but to benefit from all the goodies and on top of that wanting a piece of the pie that was set out by the solidarity system for the raising of kids.

I know that some might still see themselves entitled to that piece of the pie. It's the same reasoning the locals apply when they see themselves absolutely entitled to the 6 grand more than we make, because life is so expensive in the UAE ..... a matter of perspective.

The statement was not an indication of you in particular.

Tensions are already inflamed in the present climate, and name calling by ANY one justs adds fuel to the fire. Try not to be so defensive, and I will try to be less obtuse.

As to why to have children, and how much society as a whole will benefit because of them, I see that as a double edged sword.
An argument for another time. The debate on that will go on forever.

BTW , we don't see the school money, it's going direct to the school. Stay out of a discussion when it does not concern U and U don't give some helpful inputs.
OK, but you still realize a gain that is not from your own pockets, and benefits you to the exclusion of others. Also you must admit that housing, health and travel benefits are not the same.

p.s. This discussion concerns us all.
Stop being so sanctimonious.

As to the origin of this thread, least I be accused of hijacking the discussions, if Emirates did not give raises, step increases or bonus money this year, why do they need to increase the school allowance at all?
