Bangkok flights

Any info on when Bangkok flights will start again?
Or any advice for passengers stuck in Bangkok on alternate flights to the Middle East?

From an EK point of view everything up to 29th cancelled IAW network broadcast not to accept any BKK pax until advised. Hope the situation improves soon.

The situation obviously is bad. I know of some friends who are trying to get to BKK via KUL-- then they will see if anything from KUL gets them closer north before they resort to train, bus, or hitch-hiking. Doesn't Qatar Airways fly to Phuket?

QR does not fly to HKT. There are only two flights a day to Bangkok. I believe the airport is still closed so it may be best to travel to KUL or SIN.

Unless events change in the meantime, BKK Airports will be closed until Monday.

This is the current NOTAM for Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (VTBS):

VTBS 1A 2726/08 Effective: 29.Nov.2008 0830z - 01.Dec.2008 1100z
CLSD DUE TO POLITICAL RALLY
RMK/AVBL FOR STATE ACFT, MIL ACFT, EMERG ACFT
AND FERRY OUT FLT

So it expires today at 11am (UTC). Somehow I don't think it will be re-opening.

I reckon the NOTAM should read:

VTBS 1A 2726/08 Effective 29.Nov.2008 0830z - UFN
CLSD DUE TO PAD (PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE FOR DEMOCRACY) BLOCKING AIRPORT BECAUSE OF THE CURRENT GOVERNMENTS ALLIANCE WITH THE FORMER PRIME MINISTER THAKSIN SHINAWATRA WHO IS CURRENTLY IN DUBAI SEEKING RESIDENCY AFTER BEING KICKED OUT OF THE UK.
RMK/AVBL FOR STATE ACFT,MIL ACFT, EMERG ACFT, EMIRATES ACFT AND FERRY OUT FLT

Who can come up with a better one?

Per crew scheduling, all Ek flights until 10th cancelled and crews assigned AD's. Situation reviewed daily, and should there be an early resolution then this may be brought forward, with original crew put back on the flights.

BBC World and CNN International are now reporting that AOT has confirmed that BKK will re-open for passenger services on Thursday, 4th December, as the protests ahve taken a new turn. The Thai prime minister has resigned.

They are also reporting that King Bhumibol may make a statement during his official birthday celebrations also on Thursday, encouraging dialogue between the parties.

Let's hope it's all resolved and back to normal a.s.a.p.
