Recruitment Update

Folks

For those of you wondering about recruitment here ar Emirates, the following was in a very recent update 'Weekly Update' from the company to flight crew; I hope it's of some use, and good luck to all who are waiting.

''Recruitment Update-

§ There is still no definitive month during which pilot recruitment will resume. However, it is anticipated that pilot recruitment could resume late in the first quarter of 2009.

§ Currently there are in excess of 100 pilots who have successfully completed the selection process, awaiting the allocation of a transition course date during 2009.''

I'm one of the hundred successful pilots waiting for a course date. I was told from HR to expect an offer end of the year. Also, classes are full till end of January, so if anything it will be, hopefully, after Jan. I have also read somewhere that hiring will be reduced by half next year. Anyway, hope we will hear by end of the year. Cheers!!

New Hire Pool

It is my understanding there are approximately 130 pilots in the pool, including myself.
I was told pilots will start being called for Febuary, March classes and everyone in the pool will be on property by June. Does anyone know how they will choose pilots out of the pool? Is it experience?

Max cousre size 8 per = 16 AB/ Boeing and a cousre every 3 weeks, normally 4 per cousre. Dont think they will be going flat out starting in Apr 09 and dont forget 100 surplus on the 777 right now. Also there was some mention on a small number of upgrades for 2009/10 which would confirm the new hire munbers

Kashmir,
First you post they will hire all in the pool, 130 you say, by June, then a few hours later you say you've heard no more than 100 for all of '09. Since you also state you are one of the poolies, what source do you have for accurate info?

Emirates works on the fiscal year from April 1st to March 31st. The last letter that came out said 150 pilots in the next fiscal year. That would mean starting April 1, 2009 until March 31, 2010. What happens between now and April 1st is different. It's going to depend on delivery dates of the B777s; the global economy; attrition numbers; availability of housing; and other factors.

We've got A310 pilots, roughly 40, coming to the B777. Cadets are coming onto the B777. The B777 is overstaffed at present. B777 deliveries are delayed. A380 deliveries are delayed. All this combined is slowing the hiring numbers. It will take a few months to work through it, but with the number of B777s coming over the next few months all that will be taken care of and hiring off the street will resume.

Hang on, not so fast. Boeing just announced a revision on their production/delivery sked: ten months late now.

You might want to read the article again, it's ten weeks.

Folks

The comments below have just been published in a weekly update we receive from Emirates. I hope it is encouraging for those waiting to join us; good luck

''Pilot Selection Update-

After a six month break, Emirates pilot selection is planning to resume activities in February 2009. Currently there is a healthy and growing number of experienced pilots waiting to be invited to Dubai for the selection process.

Due to the existing large number of highly competitive applicants plus an anticipated future surge in applications, all prospective applicants should be advised not to delay their application.

There is also a large number of successful pilot applicants, who completed the selection process prior to August 2008, awaiting the allocation of a transition course date.

Course date allocation will probably commence once the training plan for 2009/2010 has been finalised."

gehenna.......Thanks for the update. When do you think the training schedule will be finalized? We were told to expect something by the end of the year.

Apples and Oranges

Well, you can be 100 or 1000 overstocked, but people do get sick and emergencies do happen that would require reserves to be activated. Don't see how it is related...

Cant wait for the Dec roster to see if I am off on the 25th on a low bid month. That is perhaps a better indication. Maybe, maybe not!

Do you really believe reservists are only held to cover for sickies and emergencies, and not for flexibility for regular roster cover in addition?

I think the best way to judge crewing levels would be to see if the regularly rostered crew are flying significantly less than the productivity target or getting more days off than usual. Haven't heard any of that.

With all of the variables and vagaries and tinkering with CRS I doubt getting Christmas off (or not) will prove much. Good luck!

Reserve is being used to massage schedules. That has become obvious in the past 2 months. The company is using Reserve to keep some pilots out of OT, break up strings of Off days and generally nullify the bidding system. It's a joke.

If they let the bidding system do its job, there would be no need for such deception. But of course the bidding system can't do its job because of the persistent manual bid entries.

I know of people who got Reserve in their top bid month, only 3 days but that should NEVER happen. And now they are allocating that idiotic 7 in 10 day VOLUNTARY reserve option, and treating it as if it was intended to be compulsory. They have even given that 7 day stretch immediately prior to the 35 days straight of Reserve. In other words, 42 days in a row of Reserve. If required days off were given in advance, it would still be horrible, but no! You only get days off on short notice and at their whim.

They come up with every excuse in the book when queried. They must have a manual with various excuses they read out whenever someone questions their resultant bid awards.

The rostering department needs a good arse kicking. So does the training rostering department by the way. If only the company realized it is actually in their best interest to run things efficiently (eg. sim training), they might actually get someone with half a brain to fix things. Unfortunately that would make pilots happy about the bidding system, so that will never happen.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know, this is thread creep, but these crazy practices are really starting to annoy people.
