I, like everyone else - have heard either the Al Waha Villas, out next to Arabian Ranches, or the Al Warqa Villas, in Mirdif. There was a meeting planned for Monday to discuss all the "permanent Accom's" with all who are waiting for them, but for some reason the meeting has been postponed so that the company can decipher some apparently "new" info coming in regarding this big issue. Just wish we could hear something a little more concrete than rumor.
Well, to be fair to Fatbus, only 1000 of those pilots have BEEN here 2 or 3 years. Number 1000 joined in May 05.
Of the longer term guys, quite a few have had a few moves, both voluntary and forced, and more will happen in the future- like when they raze Safa park!!

Don't worry LR 3, I feel your pain !!! As I am in the same situation here in wonderful temp accom's. My only hope is that they (mangt') will come back shortly with some shred of info on what we can expect from the perm accom - and it better be good. For all that we have had to put up with, in these somewhat appalling conditions, it better be good. They are supposed to get back to us today or tomorrow and let us know what the reschedule date is for the big meeting. We are waiting.

You are absolutely right. Only about 1000 pilots have been here longer than 2 to 3 years. However, when you say "quite a few" out of the 1000 pilots have been forced to move every "two to three years" (mixing two replys here), just how many (or percentage of the 1000) have actually been forced to move that often?
Kingpost,
Surly you are not in Dubai with that post.
Yes fly Dubai are offering a higher housing allowance- but they are ONLY offering an allowance, with no option of company provided accommodation. neither their nor the EK allowance would rent (let alone buy) anything approaching the standard of villa (even the crap one LR3 has!!) EK provides.
I believe flyDubai are struggling to find pilots as a result.

Easy solution my friend - resign and go back to the paradise that you came from!!!!
Even with the moaning and groaning you will be here for years to come. Enjoy the sandpit!!
I used to live in a beautiful place with green grass and where everything either worked or it got fixed asap.
I'm now living in a worse place then I was in when I got my first flying job at 20.
What a dump

DSO is only safe for the next 7 years! they're only on a 10 year lease, that's until JA airport is ready and then we'll all end up there, "rumour has it".
So if you don't like the colour (english spelling) of your lounge or the type of kitchen, don't worry, 7 years from now and we'll all have new villa's.

fight for what you were promised
that's it.exactly.when you come for the selection process EK shows you a std EK villa that you are entitled to with your family if you join EK.and it what my wife saw too.For sure our choice would have been much different if we would have been told the truth:we are stuck in a 2 bedroom flat{and initially in a hotelroom for weeks} since months...
I am disgusted from the behaviour of the company towards us and it won't be a benefit for anyone at the end.

Avi: 'Shut up n' sit down you big bald fk!..
[Doug sits down and listens quietly]
Avi: 'You know I don't like livin' my own country Doug, and expecially I don't like livin' it for anything less than warm sandy beaches and cocktails with little straw hats..'
Doug: 'but..we have sandy beaches'
[respectfully]
Avi:'So who the fk wants to see 'em..'
LR3 .. watch a good movie.. it'll cheer you up, there's little you can do, it is all up to them.
Fly safe, that's the most important thing the rest will follow.

LR3 is correct
Well done LR3 on your post.
My own bitch is how dirty the pavements on SZR have become.
I feel like i am on a permanent Mumbai layover.
In the 4 years since i joined the litter and spit on the pavements has increased dramatically and Dubai is just another 3rd world city.
I see fines are now going to be implemented electronically for littering and spitting.
I would prefer to see firing squads for spitting.

I've worked with a few FOs lately an' this issue has been on their minds... it is underminin' their family life to a significant degree.
Legal implications aside there are important lifestyle and morale issues which are even more important.
Basically all these ladies 'n gents have been lied to. They have got situations now where they are stuck in multi-family dwellings - these apartments - and there jes ain't enough room. Spouses are upset, the kids are upset, there's noise from the ever-present low standard of construction, no infrastructure to support normal recreational activities (like gym, greenspace, pool) and the company keeps playing the bait 'n switch.
These folks were recruited under false pretenses - they have been lied to since they arrived and the company just stalls and dissembles... it 's the usual vulgar 'take it or leave it' attitude fronting fer the company that apparently has a 'duty of care'. This phrase has strict legal meaning in English Common Law (from whence it came) but at EK it's uttered with all the pious sincerity of a late night televangelist from Tennessee... Most folks don't really know what it means and of course it's a lovely little throw away line with absolutely no consequence in the UAE system of jurisprudence...
EK Accomodation won't get involved... HR won't get involved... so you have a senior member of Flt Ops Manglement stampin' out these forest fires... it's like callin' a plumber when you need an electrician but that's the way EK keeps the bull**** goin'. There's no clear line of responsibility an' so there's no ethical behaviour required on the company's part 'cause no one can be identified as responsible. The families are expected to suffer and be silent. No one has quit, because there's no where to go in the current market conditions.
Fer one guy I spoke with it's been more than 7 months of evasion, half-truths, "not knowing" and it's eatin' away at his marriage. He feels trapped - he's got no alternative.
F(lie) Do-buy is givin' a bigger allowance but in the self promotin' circle jerk that real estate has become in DXB, it still ain't enough to live decently.
Duty of Care has become Doo-doo, who cares?!
It just ain't right.
Happy contrails.

And the beauty is, in 3 years time, when the markets have recovered, and there are plenty of jobs about, and there is expansion at EK, and there is a serious need to recruit and retain pilots, the self same managers will wonder why the pilots they are messing around now have no sense of loyalty.
Having said that, so far I don't see EK telling lies, but what they are doing is not telling the whole truth. Hence, as much as we may all complain, they cannot be tied down to any lies. The offering of villas in Mirdiff to pilots who had requested AR, pretty much knowing that they would turn them down (made sure by offering the rejected kennels from the police, or so it seemed), and so legally saving the inconvenience allowance.
It's such a pity, during selection you get this whole "Happy wife=happy life" story, and then they put you in accommodation which is nowhere near what you have been shown, with the family under huge strain, and you have to fork out (this is Dubai) huge amounts to keep the family entertained and their tensions under control. Then they take away the Inconvenience Allowance, which affects our families, for whom it was most beneficial.
My wife is ready to go home, job for me or not. She is not alone. Am I to sacrifice my marriage for the sake of a company whose trustworthyness is suspect?
Still, sitting on Pprune and moaning will not change anything. So we just sit and take it, and plan our Exit Strategy, confident in the knowledge that we can treat EK with the same level of respect that they show us.
And when the markets do recover, then they will realise that potential employees do read these boards, and feelings about companies are remembered.

keep dreaming if you think EK will be sorry it did not look after its pilots, just flew with an American and he said he has got lots of buddies stepping over each other to get into that almighty widebody.
