Security at QA Accomodation?
Can anyone tell me what, (if any), security does Qatar Airways provide at accomodation? I also heard that there was a car bombing outside a school in Doha a few years ago. What is the general feeling from Expats living there? Would my family be in danger, re: being American and especially since I waved the stars and stipes in the Middle East during Op IF?

Raredata, people arent looking for specifics, but it would be nice to tell them that the compound has security or not. Its difficult for people to move half way across the world if they just base their decision on CNN!

A good point, I guess their are risks no matter where you live these days. Has anyone had any problems/concerns regarding safety for themselves or their families lately?

Rocco,
I think the bomb attack you mentioned was oustide a theater here and killed one British citizen a few years back, i might be wrong but i think this was an "isolated" act rather than something linked to any international terrorist group..
Personnal safety is not an issue here, eventhough as an expanding city the "small" criminality is rising: robbery, traffic of fake items....Doha is not an exception. In so many years here i was just harassed ones (i'm a male) while doing my weekly walk on the corniche by a Koweity homosexual who wants to have sex with me.... i remained polite and said :"no thanks..".
My physical integrity has never been in danger..
As long as your wife is not going out wearing Mini-skirt and "revealing" clothes, you don't have to be worry, she will not be harassed..
Qatar is the most conservative muslim country in the gulf .(compared to Dubai, Abu Dhabi,Bahrein or Muscat..).
You "can" drive like a criminal on the road, smoke in all the "non smoking" outlet here, nothing will happens to you,BUT don't try to have a cigaret in the street during ramadan, you might and you will be in trouble! that's something ,even today for me, difficult to understand, and i'm sure i'm not the only one....
Yes Qatar accomodation do provide security.
Cheers.

I m sorry to have to disagree with you loc22550, regarding harassment.
According to me and my wifes experience, your wife has to be VERY covered up not to be subjected to harassment from the locals and some Asian expats. That has happened many times to my wife and she is never wearing any revealing clothes. The latest incident was today actually, SAD!

In respect of what you are asking, historically apart from the one isolated incident, now nearly 4 year ago, it is safer than any major city in the US or Europe. That goes for petty crime to major incidents.
On the wife front, she may feel a little uncomfortable if going alone to areas that are predominantly male (furniture souk, fruit and veg market, camel market etc), but general shopping and the major malls and supermarkets are absolutely fine.
