Article on Gulf Air
Chanced upon an article on Gulf Air in a magazine.
Thought it was reasonably balanced:

is it just my imagination or are we seeing a lot of Gulf Air press releases in the GDN all of a sudden? Gulf Air beats an IATA deadline for e-ticketing was today's treat - is it worth their while 'announcing' such 'feats'?

The fact that GF managed to do ANYTHING should be celebrated!!! The Pink Palace is the poster child of everything NOT to do on running a company or an airline. If it wasn't so pathetic it would be laughable. I don't mean the upper management either. They do their best considering they are hamstrung by the local politics and Bahrainization.
If they were free to get rid of the deadwood (remember the plan for big layoffs that never happened) there might be some improvement. The ONLY reason GF is expanding is because the government is willing to lose money on the operation. Anyone who believes it is profitable (or less money losing than before) is most probably mistaken.
Buying 340-600 (assuming that rumour is credible) is a perfect example. Much smarter management teams are ridding themselves of those money losing machines. GF wants to buy some???? Who cares if they come cheap - the fuel bills will kill that operation (hence the cheap price). SOme will raise the point that fuel is subsidized or free which makes no difference in the end. Bahrain loses in any case in the opportunity cost lost is selling that fuel at market rates. The red ink flows somewhere.
GF will stumble along until the next crisis or such a time as the government decides to stop bleeding money. If they keep throwing the cash into the fire then there is no issue. The day they stop....................................

geez seem kinda bitter, little sour grapes.... p.s EK also losing last 2 months was announced.
Not sure why GF politics has so much impact on people not here. For a company with 30 a/c and "no hope" we sure evoke a lot of emotion from a lot of people. makes u wonder....

GooF Air
Goof Air does it again. Seems they are unable to even file a flight plan. The New super dooper Shanghai schedule arrived seven hours behind schedule. Egg on the face of naf naf and crowd who where on board for the junket.

No worth to cry over spelt milk; it is passé compose! Now Gulf Air has one owner and proved persistent improvement on punctuality, reduced losses, more aircrafts, expanded network, pilots development scheme, working culture enhancement, .etc
I disagree with the notion that ‘Bahrain government wants to waste money’. GF success or failure has direct impacts on other economies in the Kingdom, making the reform case in the Company a must for government watchdogs. Many companies managed to survive and even succeed during many global downturns and certainly GF can make it through dedication, innovation and anti-corruption. Celebration of an achievement is key proper management practice; it leverages performance & corporate image and motivate existing manpower. Isn’t that far better than washing dirty linen in publics and talking about mass redundancy that damages corporate image, threatens customer confidence and leads to losing best talents for competitors to take over?
I can’t understand why many like to spot errors and oversight, more than praising good initiatives. Let’s hope that GF re-gain its power and presence.
