marriage certificate

Can anyone give me any insight on where you got your marriage certificate attested in the US?

Will the original be good enough or not?

Any other tips for the joining process and the paperwork?

Thanks for the info.

Normally, these types of things are done by the Department of State (on the State level) at your State capital. Then if you need one from the Federal Government level, they will attest the stamp which is done at the State level.

Here's what I've done to have mine attested:

1.Get an AUTHENTICATION OF SIGNATURE (a.k.a. Apostille or Certification) of your marriage certificate from the appropriate office in the state Secretary of State's office. Every State authentication authorities, as well as information on the CHAIN AUTHENTICATION are listed here: http://travel.state.gov/family/abduc...ssues_562.html

2. Then get that document (the CERTIFICATION of marriage certificate) authenticated by the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE AUTHENTICATIONS OFFICE... You will find information there:
http://www.state.gov/m/a/auth/

3.Then get those documents authenticated by the CONSULATE GENERAL OF THE USA.

In our case, the third step was done by the CONSULATE GENERAL OF THE USA in Dubai (971-4-311-6000)

Then, we went to the FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTRY IN DUBAI to have the certificate stamped. (In front of the ETISALAT building in Deira.)

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS (UAE)
Tel: 971-2-665-2200 (Abu Dhabi)
Fax:971-2-666-8015 (Abu Dhabi)
Tel: 971-4-222-1144 (Dubai)
Email [email protected]

Good luck, you might need it! In my case, it was a long and painfull process...
