Whats the latest at Oman Air? They seem to be very indifferent to emails and very slow to respond to anything. Have there been any changes in flight operations lately. I was told they will be a class in Jan 2009 and one in March 2009.

According to the usual spin here, the ATR crews will be trained on the new jets when they arrive.
At the moment, it is looking like the CRJ or the Embraer option.
For package info, it depends on what you push for. People have managed to get more than others depending on this, that and the other.
Some have their kids school fees paid and the housing allowance is reasonable.
Things change very fast here though in relation to job offers and new payment levels etc - I am not flying with Oman Air btw - just in the loop as such.
Have one mate who passed his 73 simcheck and was told to prepare to be here in two weeks. Eight weeks later, he is still not sure what is going on.
Something I would warn you about however, is that if you are here, be very careful what you say about others when you are out and about. You are never further away than a cousin from the person you are moaning about, and the resultant dismissal can be surprisingly swift.

From what I hear about Oman Air:
Salary for B737NG Capt is around $9200/Month
Housing is around $2000/Month
Widebody transition-- Don't count on it. But probably 3-5 years.
School-- Expect 75% to be paid, rest is up to you.
Life--Quiet, slow.
Current Oman guys can correct the numbers. This was from 2009.

FO makes about 3100 OR / month plus 600 housing.
Same perks than capt mention above.
Time to command: 5 to 7 years ( favor is always given to DEC)
Same for fleet transfer.
Muscat is great if you like the outdoors.
Good luck
