Post Gulf Air gets new Chairman

30 April 2008
Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, the investment arm of the Kingdom of Bahrain, announced the appointment of Talal Al Zain as chairman of the board of directors of Gulf Air, the Kingdom's national carrier. Talal Al Zain will take over from Mahmood Al Koohieji, who has been appointed as the chairman of the Alumnium Bahrain (Alba) recently.

Lloyd Cromwell Griffiths, who was airline operations director with British Airways for 34 years, has been appointed as member of the Gulf board..

Gulf Air board of directors include, Jawad Habib Jawad, Adel Kanoo, Mohammed Farooq Al Moayyad, Khalid Omar Al Romaihi, and Mustafa AlSayed.
Overall, sounds like some significant changes at Gulf Air. Anybody care to comment on the pertinent background of either of these two gentlemen and what effect their appointments might have on the airline?

I pity the poor sods lumbered with LCG...Talk about a smilng assassin. More than willing to sit and do nothing except make himself a millionaire as he did at BA. Sounds like he'll fit right in down in the Gulf.
What amazes me about this blokes is they genuinely believe that they are right. Good Luck......

Thanks for the heads up huntergboy. You are so right, the Gulf seems to be a magnet for these types I'm afraid....

Luckily for us our new Chairman is very switched on, so I suspect he'll size your man up pretty quickly.....hopefully anyway.

Cheers

ops, ops, ops

Sorry guys but in any business if you don't get the execution correct you will have to fall on your sword...... You can put any monkey on the board but unless operations execute we fail.... it's not about the board it's about product, people and process... Oh and culture , culture, culture....

In this region we want to be the biggest.... what about the best, create the plan, hire the right people and execute... excuse me but what this region lacks is the right people on the bus (airbus or boeingbus)... not the guys up the front on the wheel but the people that create the environment that allows them to execute............

that's it I'm out crossing the stops....bye

So Al-Kooheji wasn't professional or successful?

Reading between the lines, I guess that's what he's trying to say. He must be seen to support whoever's in power, not who's lost it. Smart move, right?
