Emirates Flying School Updates
Hello people,
Is there anyone around who could let me know the next batch commencement date of EFS.
I was told there would be an exam conducted by Emirates aviation college on English Proficiency and the successfull is selected.
But the school guys arent quite sure abt the dates of the next batch as this above set up is yet on talks or whatever.
Any soul with information, please strain your fingers.

The place is called Emirates Aviation Services and actually is a flight school which people wrongly dub as Emirates Flying School. Even the website is http://www.emiratesaviationservices.com/. Above the main door of the building, the name "Emirates Aviation Services" is inscribed alongwith the logo.

Guru, you of course are absolutely correct. However, for a number of years (from when it was opened up until fairly recently) it was actually called the Emirates Flying School.

Hi abcxyc
Hi there abcxyc
The Emirates Flying School is indeed a part of the Emirates Aviation Services LLC. They have various services being provided, of which one is Flight Training. As Captain Bug Smasher rightfully stated they were known as the Emirates Flying School when they first started.
About the status of their PPL batches. They do have a waiting list of students currently on the list, patiently waiting to commence their respective courses. They don't have any fixed schedules for when the courses commence thanks to the AVIATION SYSTEM here and the number of delays that hinder the progress of the current students. Therefore I doubt it's their fault for it.
They usually run the ground school for 40 students at a time, generally on weekends for an approximate duration of 6 weeks. During which there are 2 exams which students have to score above 80% in order to proceed to flight training. They have just finished 2 consecutive batches of the PPL ground school recently and the successful ones are now undergoing flight training.
They operate Piper Cherokees out of Dubai International Airport. Since November 2007, things at the airport have become quite chaotic (to say the least), thanks to daily runway closures from about 11.30 am ~ 5.00 pm. Trying to fly during these times can become quite annoying, unless a very helpful batch of ATC guys are up there running the show. If not it can be virtually impossible !
Trying to fly before that won't happen either thanks to the number of morning departures.
Only the man above would know what other nonsense would come up.......
About the ELP (English Language Proficiency). Since the 05th of March 2008 anyone holding an ATC / Pilot License needs to meet a minimum level 4, in english language proficiency. (As per ICAO regulations) This regulation does not apply to individuals that don't operate internationally. PPL Holders generally don't operate internationally here in Dubai, therefore are exempt from ELP. However the local authorities have other ideas, which makes life for training institutes hell.
These ELP assessments require knowledge of Aviation English in order to reach a minimum level 4. If you don't, then individuals have to undergo approximately 96 hours of training. (Try telling an english speaker that and see what reaction you get)
I think the problem being faced now is where during the course do individuals get assessed? The beginning, which will ruin careers (or delay them), or midway, which can do the same.....
I doubt there are any talks going on as I doubt decisions at a higher (authority) level have been made yet. Therefore I doubt any decisions from the flying schools will make a difference.
As you can probably make out, the SYSTEM around here doesn't run as smoothly as everyone thinks it should run.
Along with the delays at the airport and then silly hindrances such as the above which causes severe delays to students the only advice that I can give you, is to be patient. If that doesn't help then seek greener pastures for your flight training.
The Emirates Flying School is a very good flight training organisation, with exceptional standards. I know as I have received flight training there, however I guess the airport & system that they are stuck in....... is just not helping !
I hope that the above helps you.....abcxyc.
Give us a shout if you require any more information....
Bye & take care for now.

That was indeed a very useful and comforting piece of information. Thanks for all that.
Well whatever it is I'm prepared to wait and get into it as per their time. In fact my name is in the list of the next 40 for ground school and I was a wee worried because they weren’t firm about the start date due to the ELP test. However recently was in touch with a gentleman who had some satisfactory answers.
I will be doing part-times most probably only weekends, and was also given the understanding that this would stretch to around 2 yrs in that case. I only hope things work out fine.
Will disturb you more if have any more needs. By the way when did u do your training here and what are u doing now.
Thanks once again.

Does anyone know if Emirates are conducting the ELP test themselves or are using an external agency. I believe the tests are conducted using aviation english which somebody enrolling on a course would find impossible as their knowledge of Aviation English is nil!

Zone 2 u are right about the new students, but to my understanding and moreover hope (Cos I need to succeed one for my admission in the school) it wouldn't be an Aviation English Test but an English Language Proficiency Test so as to assure that the student has a little above average understanding/Comunnication skill.....
In a way its good so that if in case I or anyone would get a CPL and is unable to communicate or understand properly ,wuts the use.......
