Revised EK interview process

Got an e-mail from EK with the old interview process back in force.
Day 1
Normal roster and leave brief followed by the sim brief and assessment, compass test and english ICAO test (if applicable)
Day 2
Assessment workshop and physco's. More briefings and the Dubai tour.
Day3
If successful the panel interview and medical (if available)

No mention of a technical????Will it be part of the panel interview then???

Any new info is VERY welcome!!!!!!!!!

Question

Got the email as well. Also, can anyone verify/deny an "unofficial" requirement for people with only RJ time is to have 2000 hrs PIC jet. Thanks I really appreciate it.

Sioux,
Yeah I looked at the requirements and know it's total jet time. However, a friend of mine just got back from interviewing and was told about the 2000 PIC if your "heaviest time" is an RJ. Good luck to you too!

That for sure is not the official line from the company unless they just changed it. It's 2000 jet..period. No need for the PIC time.

Yeah still 4K total time before they will hire you..3500 for the interview as long as you get the 4K by the start date.

The supposed reason is if they upgrade in 3-4 years they want guys to have sufficient total time to hold left seat (6K total time for command...which isn't unreasonable). If they hired 2000 hour F/O's they wouldn't be ready after 3-4 years.

That all being said, i can't see them continuing to attract the number of people they need without either lowering the time requirements, increasing the package considerably, or offering bases outside Dubai. Out of all of those options I would suspect the 2K jet hours requirement will be lowered at some point. In the meantime they are getting enough people to keep the training department busy so it won't change until they start running out of people with the requirements they want currently.

I'm interviewing next month and heard the schedule was changed to do the sim, etc.. on day 1. Any reason for that ? Have they gone back to the old schedule completely ?
Regards.

Question for tbaylx

I'm interviewing with EK in April. You mention 6,000 total time to upgrade and I read several different numbers for upgrade, fast track , etc.
I'm a little short of the DEC mins, (I have 7,000 TT, 2,000 PIC Jet)
Can you tell us somenthing about the fast track requirements?

Thanks

Angel

My apologies. My friend went there with just short of 2000 PIC Jet time....but forgot to mention to me that he never flew as a SIC, so his total jet = his jet pic therefore he was short. Sorry for the confusion. I guess I'm starting to worry about anything!

Is 3 years really that long to wait for a command if you've no long haul experience? "Humility Timothy' springs to mind. All of us are legends in our own lunchtimes but most would be happy to be certain of passing their command first time, respected by their peers and good at their jobs rather than scraping by.

Anybody have any examples of the behavioral questions asked, or
maybe a link to some good examples. My career has not been that
exciting.

Pilot02...

That meets the accelerated command minimums of 6k total and 2K PIC on jets over 55 tons. The accelerated command program is intended to allow upgrades in as little as 18 months IF the company requires captains and no other current F/O meets the upgrade requirements. At the moment there are a good number of current F/O's that have the required time, so likely you'd be looking at 3 years anyway.

That can be and is flexible, so the company may change the policy tomorrow to something different. At the moment on the 777 the guys are starting the command assesments at 30 months and finishing by 36. Its not much more to wait even if you don't get fast tracked assuming upgrades continue at the current level.

Depending on your background in international flying, you may find the 30 months necessary to really get a good look at the operation anyway. I've flown in several different locations prior to coming here with lots of previous command as well, but because the 777 in particular flies to so many different areas and quality of airports/atc, it's kind of nice to be able to try and go to as many of them as possible before you come due for your command...makes it a much nicer transition to the left seat before you are flying into a place where neither of you have been before.

For example in a period of weeks you can go from dealing with Mogadishu HF/African uncontrolled airspace, high/hot airport ops in Joburg, then off to Moscow with difficult ATC and metric altimetry, then off to New York with associated traffic issues, then maybe YYZ for cold WX ops, throw in NAT stuff, remote ops coming soon, Chinese airspace, Himalayan crossings with escape routes, Far East, Brazil..then Australia. You get the idea. There aren't many places we don't fly so it's nice to have someone who's been there a couple of times show you the ropes before you get thrown to the wolves.

Best of Luck.

Obbie,

They basically just want to hear you tell some stories about your career. I don't think i've ever met a pilot that can't talk about himself. They typically would like some examples of CRM issues and how you handled them..maybe a situation where a guy you were flying with did something that made you uncomfortable or you had to take control. Maybe some examples or irregular operations/failures or remote airport ops where you had limited support and had to do use your head and do something outside of normal to help keep things on track. Examples of good customer service where something you've done is above what's normally required of you. Maybe your handling on a disruptive pax, or a medical emergency. If you've flown in canada or in the bush i'm sure you can come up with lots of stories.

They just want to know what kind of person you are and what they can expect from you. It's really a very laid back and relaxed interview process while still remaining professional.

Fasttracking at EK

Thanks for the brief Tbalyx,

I interviewed with them last month. BTW, the process was different to what has been mentioned in the preceding posts. Sim was on the last day followed by medical.

My references have already been checked so hopefully thats a good sign ! I have 7600 TT with more than 4000 PIC on the 737NG. They clearly mentioned that I would be put in the Accelerated Command pool ( 18 months). But will I have to wait a min of 3 years ( based on what you've written tbalyx) ? Since I have all 737NG Command time I hope that they offer me the 777 (Makes sense to me that they should). I am of the same belief as you. That time spent on the right seat will really help me for my upgrade sinse I've primarily flown domestic and nearby international routes on the `37.

So I wouldn't mind spending between 18-36 months on the right, but hopefully it doesn't stretch too much beyond that !

Thanks for your informative post !

Minor correction, the accelerated command pool does not exist.
