6 hours into a 1500hr flight at EK..............................
CAPT: What have we got to eat
FA: Sorry Capt the pax havnt eaten yet
CAPT: OK what crew meals have you got
FA: we have scrambled eggs, corn flakes, blah blah
CAPT: its 3pm I donīt want breakfast, you must have some other meals like lunch or dinner
FA: Ill, check.......we have some other main course meals in the rear galley,
CAPT: OK ill have the chicken curry and rice, any salads, deserts.
FA: NO
CAPT: so you mean to say for a 15 hour fight we have one crew meal per crew member, no salads, no deserts, just a heated up pile of muck in a foil.
FA: YES
CAPT: I suppose thats ok since those in the office work from 9 in the morning untill midnight and get given one meal during that time, yeh fair enough.....besides which theres no where to sit and eat it anyway...........

Lack of crew meals on ULR flights

I've had cabin crew say the same thing on a number of occasions. In many, if not all cases, they're wrong. An awful lot of cabin crew don't know there is a chilled storage cabinet opposite the R3 door (I think) that holds a whole bunch of crew meals. There is soooooo much pax food packed onto those ULR flights that there is seldom any room left for the crew meals. On one of my flights, the cabin crew finally found the crew meals tucked away behind a trolley, in an unchilled area...after at least 10hrs of not being chilled. Very healthy; not.

Search and you (may) find.

..ironically that particular chiller is directly opposite the toilet. Guess that's about what the company thinks of our crew meals

No,... checked the in roof electrically deployable secret compartment was full of blankets. And re BYO several of the crew had BYOd their own food. There is generally food left over, but thats it, itīs left overs 13-14 hrs into the flight after the pax have eaten.

We used to have a system whereby if you wanted to wait for F class food you could but would have to wait until after the F class service was finished, alternatively you could have a Business Class meal more or less, subject to work load in the cabin, any time you liked. Crew food for tech crew was Business Class food. Why don't you guys in EX negotiate this?
Reasonable food more or less when you want it.

A small point but who's in charge of the aircraft? When such situations have arisen in the past the solution is relatively straight forward. "I will eat now pax or crew, whatever is available, if no crew then bring pax menu's, report the lack of food through the CC reporting system" Now who in the office is going to tell a Captain that he cannot eat? End of story. I do not work for EK but my own airline has a passage in the Ops manual stressing the need for crew to hydrate and eat whilst flying, am sure EK have a similar?
