Good Value Hotel MCT

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel in the Muscat area or one which gives a good crew discount?

The 'Golden Tulip Hotel',which is a stones throw from the airport approx 5 minutes.
Ring the hotel and they will send the courtesy bus to pick u up.
Would'nt take a taxi as the minimum charge was high the last time i was there. Not real close to town but u can cab it or rent a car.

Hope this helps.

Depends on what you are up to in MCT

If you need to be near the airport then yes the Golden Tulip is the option.

However, if you are in for a few days and want to be near things like Starbucks and a cheap greasy spoon (Darcy's Kitchen) then you could try the InterContinental or the cheap and cheerful Beach Hotel who do rooms for about 40 OMR a night. This hotel has NO facilities though - just apartment style with a separate living room, kitchen and bedroom. If you are on your own it is fine but I wouldn't dream of bringing a partner or fling there lol

Enjoy yourself!

There used to be a hotel in Muscat called the Majan Muscat. They had rooms for as little as OMR12 per night!!!

It was an ok place - although a bit near the industrial areas, if I recall correctly. Not bad for one night.

Golden Tulip

Golden Tulip is very close to airport, good value and clean BUT be warned it is a VERY basic place. Fine for a night's rest, but not for any sort of longer stay or vacation. There are zero amenities apart from a strange pool on the 1st floor, and nothing within walking distance. The town is a 25 min cab ride.

Arrow Radisson or even Holiday Inn!

I lived & worked in MCT for 3 years so i know the area pretty well..

Radisson is fine, u cud check up the rates online..i do have a friend who lives next to Radisson so if really needed lemme know what yr requirements are, and i shall check it out for ya...

Holiday Inn was a 2 min walk from my house, and the place for all the WY crew/employees to be put up when they wud newly move to MCT area.. so albeit u shud try that one there..I rem I got the club membership in like a quarter of the price with my parents working in the Airlines

All,

Thanks for the information - the Golden Tulip looks exactly what we are looking for although self catering is always an attractive option.

The only one I know up the hill is the Crown Plaza.

It looks down onto where the bridge used to be, that got blown up by the mil....sorry, I mean washed away during Gonu.

Unless the Golden Tulip has had some sort of a makover I wouldnt let my dog stay there!....The Radisson is indeed the best priced decent hotel in my opinion.

My all time fav is the Chedi - blissful hotel indeed which I stayed at 4-5 times when work payed
My 2 cents

Judging by the price I would think it most definitely has had a makover!

re Tulip: Nope, I was there less than 2 months ago and if that's a makeover then I am afraid the mascara is running and the lipstick is all over the nose.

The Golden Tulip is crap. There's a lot, and I mean A LOT, of construction work going on all around it at the moment.

There's also the hassle of listening to endless get ins and get outs next door at the exhibition centre!

The Chedi is a lovely hotel and they have fully repaired it since Gonu.
Had a really nice meal there a while ago with Surely Not Again.

You can always stay at mine for a crate of Heineken

Still there and the view just as good as ever, however its now called the Crowne Plaza. Location wise, Crowne Plaza, Radisson in good central locations. Holiday Inn and Golden Tulip are very old and tired and I wouldn't touch 'em with a barge pole. Intercon and Hyatt will put you right on the beach, but also into the next price bracket.

Go with the Radisson. They provide transport to their own beach club also.

And yes, the Chedi is the very best of them all.

Thanks Chaps. Got in touch with the Radisson but they can only offer me a Standard double room at RO 135.000, subject 17% taxes and service charges and exclusive of breakfast. Was hoping for something much cheaper........

Thank you Dixon's Cider, restored my faith!
Spent a whole lot of happy days and nights at that hotel back in the late eighties and early nineties, not to mention the mid sixties!!!
