Salalah for fifteen weeks...

I have been posted to Salalah for fifteen weeks starting on Saturday.

Due to having to bring a lot of equipment and manuals with me, I will have to drive there for the initial transfer. (They tell me that there is nothing to see on the road except sand)

Also, because of commitments here, I have to be back in MCT most weekends.

But for the odd one that I am staying there, does anyone have any suggestions on which attractions are worth seeing and which are a waste of time?

Just go out and enjoy. It was depends how much time you'll have to do it. You'll be surprised with the weather. If you know MCT, just lower your expectations quite a bit. I hope you don't have to drive SLL-MCT-SLL every weekend... If so, that will "kill" you (me thinks).

I'm in Salalah right now, staying in the Hilton Resort, lovely big room, decent pool and bar - not bad at all............ could be worse

I take it that once you have taken all your bits and bobs down to Salalah you will be commuting back and forth by air won't you?? From what I hear Muscat-Salalah-Muscat is quite a lengthy and 'interesting' drive

How long to drive from MCT to SLL? Assuming one (?) overnight camp along the way?

the drive from MCT to SAL.. is around 8hrs drive..
the problem, u wont have any phone contact for around 4 hours.. i guess the last place with the phone range is Adam, then u will be back around Haima then Thurmait until Salalah..
the timing is wrong as the weather is hot then muscat.. if it was around june or july it would be better..
why u dont try 2 get the RAFO flights..

anyway have fun..

RAFO flights are an option.

Quite possibly the kindest air force in the world!

And my last ditch hope of a 1-11 flight........please?
