Jose Ignacio, I couldn't agree more!!!!!!!!!!
And for the rest: Let's not forget that the international standards are pretty much the same everywhere. Just go to any ICAO office and ask!!!!!
By the way, you don't need to be cheap in order to be willing to apply for EK. It's a matter of "demand and offer". Just ask all the Europeans that are looking for a job in the Middle East.

Cheers

They did

I interviewed with a Chilean over 5 years ago.
Nice guy, Airbus skipper and seemed well experienced.
I don't know how he did in the sim, but the language was a bit of a problem
Unfortunately he did'nt get the job, but hope he's doing well.

This is a business. As the market changes, so the the experience requirements etc etc.
There are obviously good and bad from all nationalities and cultures and
statistically, the safety record of 'Western' airlines has been better than other areas. Hence some may get into the superior argument.
Anyone with a licence can fly, it's how the company gets you to do it safely that is the real cruncher for me

Communicating in English has always been the stumbling block for many from South America. Perfectly skilled Pilots that that now need to 'think' English rather than Spanish.

Harry. I am from south america and I agree with you. English is sometimes a problem. But if those guys fly there, or at any place it means English is not a problem for them. Al least for those guys.

Technical profficiency is not the defining characteristic of different regions. From a recruitment perspective, South America presents different challenges, one of which is varifying an applicant's CV and stated experience. One chap several months ago had his log booked authenticated by the local fire chief....! I suggest that this and similar reasons may explain why EK has previously recruited from other continents. The desperation for crew now justifying the extra work/checking.

FYI guys: Colombian Pilots from both genders started to arrive since 2003 to Emirates, Air Arabia, Qatar, Etihad, Kuwait Airways and Gulf Air. Today, they even fill both left and right seats in some of these airlines… So what’s the big deal?

Here is a question, why didn't EK look at pilots in ''South America '' say 5 years ag

Ask the same question to the british/australian/south african lobby who is in charge of recruitment at EK.
As far as i know there are many ''third world Cies'' operating the same acft as EK with excellent safety records, but the unique perfect lords of aviation are where you know

I guess if the tables were turned and things were good in South America and a bunch of us had to go work there, Spanish would be a problem for most.

Keep it safe, keep it standard and lets get guys from all over - I love the variety.

That would be fine if the ICAO requirment for language was Spanish.A lovely idealistic view of the world Crinklstein.I vote that you become the head of the EK CRM Department.

Oh c'mon guys. You know all you have to do at EK is learn to say "check" in English. Or say FOM chapter 8, page 20 (or something to that effect).

RE ICAO language requirement

Actually..... the company I work for will be soon looking at getting pilots from abroad and not necesarily from other spanish speaking countries. One of the requirements currently being discussed is whether a recruit should have to demonstrate some level of spoken, written, and understanding of spanish. Why? because all company manulas, circulars, comuniques, crew dispatch and briefings are in spanish, NOT english. Yes, I know english is a requirement but to hold a License in this country one must be able to "read, speak and write in spanish".

OW

PS. Totally agree with J I, well said Sir, BRAVO! (now was that in english or in spanish?)

PPS. Bring on the recruitment drive in South America

Best In The Skies

For the past few years i've flown next to the best pilots in the world in Emirates from all nationalities, and I feel very safe with my family and myself flying with any pilot in Emirates.

Safe landing everyone

South America

Recruitment is soon going to announce the dates for the interviews in BOG. They know about the pilot market in Colombia(AVA, TPA ......) The big issue EK is having with South American pilots is the language.

I wonder if recruitment will advise the candidates in Columbia about their 2 compatriots who so tragically died on the roads in Dubai just recently??

Oldest Airline in the world

Mates, please get your info right, Avianca from Colombia is the oldest operating airline in the world, pilots in south america may not be native english speakers, but lets not forget that most of the latter operated within the US and the caribbean (really broken english) for years, Taca from el salvador, guatemala, costa rica and peru, was at a time the biggest cargo airline in the world, Varig (screwed by management), Lan Chile, Aerolineas argentinas, Aeromexico, Mexicana, has some of the worlds most stringent regulations for aviation c'mon the only reason they are willing to move to the sand pit is like ALL of us, MONEY!! they are great pilots, with lots of experience, in all kinds of ops, did you know that the most dangerous ITCZ in the WORLD lies between colombia and mexico? not to mention the hurricane seasons every year in the atlantic, really high altitude airports and really short runways on non-radar enviroments, in very high mountanous terrain, unreliable navaids, NPA's (when was the last time you shot an NDB approach raw data?) or circle to land on minumus with high terrain all around? 5to 6 sectors a day in really bad wx, extreme pressure from the airline to save fuel and stay on schedule... yes, it's a third world area, but the standards are higher than the so called developed countries; Have you flown there??? EVER???think and do some research before jumping to comment
cheers

You are right

Togaluck you are totally right about every one of your points, but one, Avianca is the second oldest flying after KLM, and yes most of the comments against spanish speaking pilots come from ignorance and stup..., unknown brings fear, and fear affects brain conections.
