HELP
Hello to eveyone. I'm interested in knowing more about QR Airline. I currently work and live in South America. As I've seen many old threads in which mostly the are complaints I'm interested in hearing a very sincere point of view. I live in a third world country, meaning a not wonderful place like USA or Europe. I work in a company where A330 FO makes about 4500 dollars with out any housing or extra benefits like many airlines in ME offer, just transportation allowance.
Most of the complaints I see are from people in Europe and North America, and as a pilot who has been in Europe and USA I guess it's much better to work and live in Europe and USA and there are better Jobs in Europe and in USA.
I don't have a problem in following a SOP, but I get really scared of how many people complain and say how it isn't enough to live in Qatar for what you get paid, or how rosters are crazy and the company has very strict rules.
Making 4500 dollars on my country where I have to pay my housing and bills and tax is considered a lot since the minimum wage in the country is only 300 dollars a month.
I would really appreciate a good detail on the airline with a sincere point of view. Thank you very much to all. Happy landings.
A330 FO with 4000 hours.

Thank you Javadreaming for the info.
Are we allowed to stay here as well or this is an option to stay if we were to go for housing allowance?
I am married but no kids, In Ain Khaled Gate are there 2 story houses or villas only? I really don't know whats the proper name, or is it mixed with apartments?
by any chance do you know whats a typical Roster for a A330 FO, overnights, hours, days off, etc.
Once again thank you very much.
For first officers the holiday villas are probably the best

What is your source that housing is not provided? It seems to be the opposite as currently everyone receives housing( although if it changed 180 degrees overnight I would not be too shocked)

AKG has villas that have a waiting list in the region of 18 months. There are also 3 bed apartments and duplex apartments. Facilities are excellent, apartments a bit dark, call to prayer at Lord knows what time is something you get used to (apparently)!

Housing is a big issue. Which still remains unresolved.
They say policy is to provide all pilots housing. However if nothing available you will be given the allowance. You will have up to 4 weeks in the company accommodation. You may be able to stretch this another 2 weeks if you can't find anything.
You will not be able to find out until the day you arrive if company housing is available, if you can, better to leave the family at home until you are settled. If company housing is available no problem, but if you need to move out many guys goto serviced apartments, this activates the housing allowance which you accrue. Thus giving you some time to look around for something and get a feel for the place and the areas of the city regarding schools, malls, traffic, etc. Some single guys or commuters do share and actually bank money out of the allowance.
Housing rentals are expensive and the allowance is insufficient. Secondly there are up front costs. Normally half a months rent to the agent, a month up front and 11 post-dated cheques. Plus one undated cheque as a security deposit. If non-type rated they take the bond deduction from day one, so if you can save some money before start date it does help with these up front costs.
Hopefully there will be a rent freeze (there was one a while back) and then an increase in the allowance.

F14,
Since Qataris ( and so qataris pilots)got a 60% pay rise recently, I doubt there will be any kind of increase for us ( expats) before a while...
That's my 2 cents feeling.
