You can also use the leave system to maximize your time at home. Effectively you can get seven blocks of seven days leave (one day off is added to each six days of leave). Spread them throughout the year and you will have a block of four days off plus a seven day leave block (but not together) for seven months of the year. For the remaining five months you have only the block of days off. So traveling back to Europe regularly is doable, but not ideal. Hope that helps.

Good day fellow aviators,
New on this forum thing and would like to get some feedback. I have been scrolling through previous posts but since its a huge forum, excuse me for asking questions you might have seen.
I am from the US and currently flying for a airline here on the Boeing 737. I am coming close to meeting the requirements of various carriers in the Middle East and Qatar is one of them for sure. I know with the pilot shortage worldwide, I can perhaps walk into a legacy airline here in the US in the future but since I hail from the sandpit originally, I would love to fly back closer to home and culture that I have my roots from, so therefore, flying for a carrier in the ME is my first priority.
I did see on the forum for Qatar that currently they are recruiting for TR Boeing First Officers, i am flying all series of the Boeing right now however bulk of my time is on the classic 737. Since they specifically stated they require NG time, can I still apply for the TR or my best bet would be just to wait for the NTR window to open and apply as a NTR candidate as I have the 1000hr jet time requirement made.
Also, how is the training structure in Qatar Airways, i have heard some stories about other carriers in the GULF so would like for someone to elaborate more on that, and secondly how to prep for their interview process and what prep programs others have used in the past.
Lastly, how is the medical process in Qatar, are they picky like they are in UAE. The reason I ask is, I had a friend of mine who went to EK and they gave him a hard time about his weight, even though he was perfectly healthy and in good shape as he worked out, they follow the BMI number more there and his BMI was high and cause of that it took him about 3 months of medical tests/screening to clear him.
Honestly i thought it was a money making spree but, yes these are some of the questions I have in mind, before I apply at Qatar. Feel free to inbox me and I look forward to all of your feedback. Good luck to all in everything they desire to do. Cheers.

Training is quite good. Organized, straight forward and done according to the book.
The medical is quite straightforward as well, certain areas are under extra scrutiny though such as previous contagious infections (Tuberculosis etc) where they are very picky.

Aircraft, no S. The blockade has been in effect for a long time now and they have not stopped expanding. It has clearly not worked and it wouldn’t surprise me if Saudi and the other nations reduce their demands or lift it altogether.

If they had their crystal ball handy back then predicting the blockade and trouble increasing training capacity they probably would.

What I mean is that you should empty the pool according date of entry. Off course its different when you can get 777/787 rated cpts. But they also bypass 737 cpts for 767/747 rated cpts. I was not aware that with a 767 or 747 rating you can do a shortened 787/777 rating... Besides this it would be polite to advise the people that pass your “assessment” that you are second choice as heavy rated cpts will go in front of you.
Taking pilots with previous experience on similar types reduces resources needed for training, time to get on line and usually less problems due to difficulties adapting to the environment hence them being the preferred candidates when capacity is limited. The 737 DEC on 787 is a quick fix which typically only is used when other means aren't enough.

What is a talent pool
Can anyone tell what a talent pool is and how does it work. I have been interviewed and told by Technical person (Line Manager) that I am putting u in Development Engineering pool as your skills matches there rather than current vacancy posted. He advised HR to put me in talent pool.
or he said if u dont want that then I will put rejection against current role so option is urs. I have selected for pool but dont know how it works.
Will there be another interview or do they pick randomly from pool and give DOJ or what?

Your case sounds like you were not selected for an interview but rather than rejecting application decided to move you to a different category and maybe shortlisted as someone to call when interviewing for that position.....I would assume you would have to interview when position available
