Actually, majority of the complaints are from Europe! The other thing that you should consider is the person's previous flying background. If one came from an airline having 20 days off, 2-4-trips a month, etc, of course that person is going to complain if one has only 8 days off, 8-10 trips a month, etc. But if you asked the guy who came from a low cost airline or a regional airline, you will hear a completely diffident tune.

Good, knowing your SOPs is paramount here! Usually pilots are terminated, not for any one reason, but for multiple reasons added together. Of course, you do something that not fitting of person with good character, you can bet you will find yourself terminated.

Hows the Housing that QR offers for FO, i would be applying for FO? Is it in a good place? or is it better to opt out. Thank you. Is it better to Rent a car or buy one? is there parking spaces available at the airport for employees or how does it work?

Thank you av8tordude i really appreciate your feedback.

If any one else wants to add anything else, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you Javadreaming for the info.

For first officers the holiday villas are probably the best
Are we allowed to stay here as well or this is an option to stay if we were to go for housing allowance?

I am married but no kids, In Ain Khaled Gate are there 2 story houses or villas only? I really don't know whats the proper name, or is it mixed with apartments?

by any chance do you know whats a typical Roster for a A330 FO, overnights, hours, days off, etc.

Once again thank you very much.

What is your source that housing is not provided? It seems to be the opposite as currently everyone receives housing( although if it changed 180 degrees overnight I would not be too shocked)

AKG has villas that have a waiting list in the region of 18 months. There are also 3 bed apartments and duplex apartments. Facilities are excellent, apartments a bit dark, call to prayer at Lord knows what time is something you get used to (apparently)!

Housing is a big issue. Which still remains unresolved.

They say policy is to provide all pilots housing. However if nothing available you will be given the allowance. You will have up to 4 weeks in the company accommodation. You may be able to stretch this another 2 weeks if you can't find anything.

You will not be able to find out until the day you arrive if company housing is available, if you can, better to leave the family at home until you are settled. If company housing is available no problem, but if you need to move out many guys goto serviced apartments, this activates the housing allowance which you accrue. Thus giving you some time to look around for something and get a feel for the place and the areas of the city regarding schools, malls, traffic, etc. Some single guys or commuters do share and actually bank money out of the allowance.

Housing rentals are expensive and the allowance is insufficient. Secondly there are up front costs. Normally half a months rent to the agent, a month up front and 11 post-dated cheques. Plus one undated cheque as a security deposit. If non-type rated they take the bond deduction from day one, so if you can save some money before start date it does help with these up front costs.

Hopefully there will be a rent freeze (there was one a while back) and then an increase in the allowance.

F14,
Since Qataris ( and so qataris pilots)got a 60% pay rise recently, I doubt there will be any kind of increase for us ( expats) before a while...
That's my 2 cents feeling.

The problem is it's not really a pay rise for the locals, because it's a closed loop system.

What it does mean is that we get a burst of inflation with more cash printed (60% public sector pay rises) chasing almost the same amount of commodities, goods and service. Thus causing price inflation if there is not any government price controls.

In a system without taxation and limited internal competition or production it can be a tricky situation for any economy, with all the extra readies sloshing about.

Personally I would like to see a pension/savings fund instead of a pay rise. This would be able to keep up with inflation in the home country rather than adding to domestic money supply. I believe the other two major players in the region offer this...

Days off

Can anybody tell me how many consecutive days off you can get in QR? Is it the same for all the fleets or does it depend on the fleet? Thank you.

Does anyone has any info if there are rated FO's that have successfully passed the interview getting DOJ lately?

I have heard that people that are being interviewed right now and the ones that did in the last few months are in the talent pool ......again.

Also that they are only going to be calling new joiners (FO) for the 320 next year.

Any info to share???

Cheers

K1000,

6 days off in a row max.( very difficult to get it on the 320 fleet I think)
But keep in mind that you have another constraint as well now as you can only have a max of 10 days off/ month.
( if you want more you have can try to bid for days off end of the month and beginning of next month...but you can't plan anything till you receive your next month roster, usually one week before the end of the month, indeed bidding for it doesn't guarantee you will get it.)

Before ( till April) was 8 days off in row, with no restriction of max days off/ month....
While for some us this new rule didn't have any impact,For others who used to "commute" to see they family abroad, this new rule was a serious backward step.
