Why was a fit, competent pilot in BAH denied his right to fly?

Had a pint recently with a friend who related a story from Bahrain that has slipped under the "Magic Carpet" that should make everyone's blood boil...

Why was one of the nicest gents around, John O', ignored / Red-Taped / B.S.'d / outright LIED to when he tried to rightfully re-activate his licence and regain his right to fly? He had to retire once already because of the then-archaic age-limit, but after the rules were recently changed, raising the maximum age crew can fly to, and the governing body who oversees crew in Bahrain agreed to this ICAO-prompted change, he was stalled / stymied and SCREWED OVER by those officials who should have done the right thing and HELPED HIM, and ended up NOT GETTING HIS LICENCE RE-ISSUED??!!

I wonder what the REAL story is from those who wield the power of the sword (and pen)??

Best wishes John. May others not have to go through the mess you were unfairly dragged through. It was an honour to have worked with you. SHAME on those who were behind this fiasco!!

Very sorry to hear about this travesty; however I suspect that prime- mover behind this has recently 'lost face' in a big way....what a shame!
Imeacht gan teacht ort.

"ignored / Red-Taped / B.S.'d / outright LIED to"
"stalled / stymied and SCREWED OVER by those officials who should have done the right thing and HELPED HIM"

Classic 'Third World mentality' I'm afraid....

Mate of mine in the same, if not even more rocky boat.

Gf asked him to stay to age 65. Minor medical hitch put him on the sideline as new Fleet Capt was brought in & the Swiss Rescue 911 boys were medivacced in. Excellent Capt.GM (cheers to you mate) was overlooked for the rightful A340. He then found himself embroiled in new Age Over 60 contract, medical hitch & was rolled over for sticking up his hand of complaint.

Whilst Icao went to 65 & DGCAM went to 65, Gf didn't to the HOMEwork with Labour Laws. Skippers Work permit & res Visa was allowed to expire just after he bacame fit. He was (and still is) a Visa overstay case attracting fines of BD20 per day.

He remains grounded. All flights that he is rostered for that he does not undertake (because he does not have a work permit) are registered as unpaid days. ie, he loses BD100 per day.

And the new Management Team tell him that they are "on the case".

Pull out ole Buddy & go where you are wanted. Another Gf stitch up to save face. Enjoyed flying with you & learning all the good stuff. An absolute outrage to one of nature's finest.
