Search for Hunter Pilot Ali Hamdan Thumrait Oman 1983ish

I'm trying to find a pilot that my father was friendly with in Thumrait Oman in the mid 80s. He was, I think, a Hunter pilot but there were also Jaquars as well and as I was only 14 at the time I get a confussed. His name is Ali Hamdan, he was married to a girl called Amina, and had a baby boy named Casse, Amina was expecting her 2nd child. Ali had spent quite a while training in the UK. My dad was in SOAF, working security in Thumrait then later in Masiera. I so enjoyed my trips to Thumrait, really would love to find Ali & his wife.
Thanks so much, this means so much to me & dad who is now nearly blind.

I am based in Oman and have contacted someone who will be able to help but you will need to check your PMs and answer the questions that I have asked you. (especially the one about full name)

Cheers

What is SOAF stands for ?
From the history of The Royal Air Force of Oman.......
From Sultanate of Muscat & Oman Air Force (SMOAF) to SOAF
The British had great influence on the military development of Oman. Miscellaneous Sultans used British military expertise and manpower to secure their rule. On 1 March 1959 with British aid the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman Air Force (SMOAF) was established. The first aircraft in its inventory were four Scottich Aviation Pioneer CC1's that served until 1962. These were augmented by a total of twelve Hunting Percival Provosts. These piston engine aircraft were used extensively against rebels during the Dhofar battles. In 1969 the first jet powered aircraft entered service. This was the Strikemaster Mk.82 and it played a major role in the battle of Dhofar. In the same year Oman received its first C-47 Dakota and a second one would follow one year later. These were soon replaced by the DHC-4 Caribou and later the Shorts Skyvan. A second batch of twelve Strikemasters was ordered and troop transports were taken over by five Vickers Viscounts that were bought on the second hand market. In August of 1970 "Muscat" was dropped from the name of the air force and it officially became Sultanate of Oman Air Force (SOAF).

just in case

Hi, I don't know if you managed to find Ali but just in case you didn't....he's alive and well . He lives round the corner from me and I last spoke to him in Carrefour supermarket about a fortnight ago.

My Omani husband, like Ali, has retired from RAFO but we keep in regular contact with him as he is a good friend and was a very big part of our life for a long, long time time.

If you still need to contact him just PM me and I'll arrange it.

It could be that we know you and your dad although I personally didn't live in thumrait until the married quarters were built about 19 years ago. My masirah days were long before that.

I'm laughing at you mentioning amina expecting baby number 2 because Ali is now a Grandfather many times over.

Let me know if I can be of any help to you.

ps, if my son and son in law read this...honest I'm not stalking you, I found this site whilst googling for another ex thumrait friend for big daddy.
