Inflation vs Pay Rise

The cost of living in the UAE rose by a staggering 28 per cent last year - the highest in the entire region. A survey of more than 250,000 people across the six GCC countries also revealed salaries had risen by 15 per cent during the same period.
This from the 7 days newspaper this morning 19 February.

Emirates pilots got 6% pay rise that does not come into effect until May.

Lost cause, mate. To them we're mere workers with the sole difference that we're driven to work with a Audi and not a white windowless bus. That's why they think WE owe them daily gratitude.
It's a matter of only very few Dirhams less and a lot more will leave. I'm in the thinking process since the 6% announcement, reluctantly i admit, but it becomes a matter of losing too much income.

What is there to think about? The falling dollar will drive more pilots away this year and then there is the matter of inflation. How much more are we going to lose before we realize it is better back home both money and sanity wise?

The next time all you EK guys are told to hold at DESDI you can gain some comfort from the knowledge that the guys clearing you into that hold got a whopping 2.5% increase to their total package.

Came into Dxb last night and had a great service from the locals and expats alike.

Great job guys-keep going-we all in the same boat with the pay rises-or LACK of.

Payrise 12% - Inflation 30%. Wrong side of the drag curve.....

I think this closes the topic.

You've been most unhappy with EK for a very long time - just how much more can YOU take

Air no services,

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't the same guys clearing me into the hold get a 70 - 80% pay rise recently?

Here's an idea that AirNoServices and his mates at UAE could use to justify their pay rise.

If they get a sudden rush on in the morning then why not stick a few random aircraft into the DESDI hold at say FL170-200 and then route several following aircraft under DESDI at 10,000-13000" for a straight in at DXB.

When things quieten down a bit bring off the DESDI holders so they land 10 minutes after aircraft that they had previously been 10 minutes ahead of when they were with Bahrain.

Must be worth 2.5%.

White Knight,
here we go again. the same 'if you don't like it here, leave..' line. c'mon guys. it takes a lot of effort to move out here. and it's not for the sand that expats leave their homes to come here.
if anything, improvements that you benefit from did not come as a result of happy campers. it's a result of remaining an attractive employer.
interesting article in arabian BUSINESS april 6-12 edition. pprune was mentioned as an influencial forum amongst pilots and their employers. so please everyone, air whatever qualms worth airing since independant publications even make mention of ppurne.

VAT + Inflation

We now have 'time to prepare' for VAT delayed this year till 1st quarter 2009...

http://www.zawya.com/Story.cfm/sidGN_27052008_10216460

Inflation up, VAT... just like home... but it isn't.

I know WK, if I don't like it I can; take my kids out of school, pay additional fees to relocate home where the exchange rates will devalue anything earned etc etc... simple isn't it.
