BlueSkye, you can have it!! Cape Town is over rated . Get up to the West Coast, it's much better than that tourist trap(Oh ja, I suppose you will be a tourist)

Salary negotiations according to management are under way here for increases in 2007(when? in 2007 is anyone's guess).

All that we know, and apparently management knows this, is that if the increases are not substantial, OMDB is going to go the same way as FAJS, fast. Lots of planes, no bums to fill the seats. Thought they would have learned by now!
There has been speculation and rumours of what the increases are going to be, but that is all they are at the moment.

Thunder, do yourself a favour and approach both ANSP's, see what they have to offer. Upside of Oman is that it is beautiful, traffic is bearable, pay not bad. You will also have a LOT of Sefricans to keep you company soon. Downside-goverment contract,possibly nil security contractwise.

Dubai-busy!(Air and road traffic), those traffic jams will either keep you amused as you shake your head in amazement as you see what the locals get up to, or drive you crazy. Not cheap either, rent costs rising daily.
But definitely manageable, if you don't go overboard. Life is def much better here than back home, we still braai, etc, but I do miss those Highveld TS(not working in them though)

Wait for the new year and see what happens ref the salaries, not long to go anyway

Agree, CT overated but the property market there has been kind to me. Will definately have a cold few at Strandloper and Muisboskerm. Golf at Arabella then snoek and papsak at Pringle, aai karamba.

Would be great if DXB can get a fair whack of an increase. Will help the AUH guys with a bit of leverage. I know, what a day for a daydreamin' but anything is better than 1.5%. I did hear the rumour the other day with some obscene numbers being bandied around.

Well, I'm outta here for some bullet dodging.
Wallet - check;
tickets - check;
H&K - check;
stove off - hmmmm.

Ready gooooo!

New salary, who knows? If the rumours are true, based on the bottom of the scale and 10% increase(yeh, right) then bottom of the line ATCO can expect an extra AED18 000pa. That's on basic, don't see them increasing any of the other allowances maybe except for housing. And then it will probably be a case of "we will give you either an increase in basic or housing allowance". The eternal trade off!!

Standard contract-AED180 000pa, 30K ATCO allowance, 6K fuel, Housing 90k single, 100K married, 110K married with children. Not enough, decent place in DXB will set you back at least 130K, so be prepared to pay in!!!!
If you are a SUP or WSTO you get a a little allowance for that.

Would love 30%, but I think the sky will fall on our heads before that!!

BlueSkye, leave the H+K at home, they issue you with an AK47 on arrival in SA. Part of the welcome pack Have fun

For anybody coming from The UK keep an eye on the exchange rates. With the UAE Dirham being fixed to the US Dollar, and the present Dollar/sterling situation, anybody changing money from DH to pounds have taken about a 20% pay cut this year

Not sure how it works out for other currencies.
