Hotels in Tripoli Libya?

Anyone been in Tripoli recently? I have to fly there in the next week and cannot find much on the internet for hotels. None of the major chains and only a review of the Corinthia Bab Africa Hotel that looks anywhere descent.

Suggestions or input would be appreciated. No, am not going to sleep on the plane, did that last week in Islamabad when nothing was available!

Only decent place is the Corinthia - have stayed in many others but they're all dives.

Enjoy TIP - great place with a serious shortage of burger & pizza places.

Hi

I have to agree Corinthia is the way to go. Bab Bahar I think it's called ok for the night if you don't mind sharing with roaches.

I would highly recommend the Nouzha Hotel on Abu Gfifa Street in the Benashour neighborhood, an upscale area. It's a very small hotel run by a retired Libyan Arab Airways Captain and his family.

Everyone there is friendly and helpful, much unlike the big hotels listed above. The rooms are immaculate, comfortable and quiet. The rooftop restaurant is excellent.

I haven't been there in a couple of years, but I think the place is still popular with LAA pilots and long-stay Western visitors. You'll need to book in advance.

Well ladies and gents,

Dispatch screwed us again! We were told that we were booked in the Corinthian. Landing at 2300 we headed over to the hotel, only to waste 20 minutes there finding out that there were no rooms for us there and the hotel was full.

Transport took us instead to the Four Seasons hotel. Now before you start saying anything, this is unlike any four seasons hotel you have ever seen. Its big on Libyan style and not even close to the chain that we all know and wish we could stay in on a regular basis.

It was better than sleeping in the plane with the APU on but not by a whole lot. Gunship came down and met us and was a big help and we all wished that we had more time in the city to learn about the place but we had a 1500 push and had to run.

Excellent info on the African forum. Did not know about it and anyone going there might want to take a look. Not sure if I can post the forum link here so anyone interested pls email or PM me.
