Request for info about unused EK 777's
I wonder if I might be permitted to ask about Emirates 777 fleet in respect of a rumour that has started at BA?
Although it seems pretty certain that we will take up our option for 10 aircraft in 2008, the rumour mill says that we will be leasing "unused 777-300's" from Emirates as they are "parked in the desert".
Is this true? Do you know of any new aircraft that have been delivered but not put into service?
Notwithstanding that we couldn't crew any extra machines for about 4 to 6 months, would any EK pilots care to lay this one to rest..............

Oooh there are a few being gently rotated around the ramp and hangars theoretically awaiting maintenance. Which is the airlines contemporary term for "we are short of crews, but will not admit it"
Doubt they would lease them to BA, that would be a big loss of face.

Yes - it appears the answer to my question is a resounding " er, don't know".
Maybe I should just phone my old mate Alan S. Nice bloke, how is he doing these days........

Sorry for all the smart-ass replies, by the way. They don't exactly spill loads of info to us lowly line pilots. However, as was originally said, EK always seems to be screaming for more metal, so it would be very strange if we had anything parked.

TCAS Bin Stealey
TCAS is rumoured to be living in a cave in the ungovernable tribal region between Sheik Idle and the West. Mister Ed acts as his PR man for all intents and purposes.
Seriously though, Uncle Osama attracts greater respect than TCAS these days. Another ex BA seat-warmer.

Yes we are screaming for more aircraft, but you do need pilots to fly them. Comes under the category of donkey before the cart, that would of course make us Donkey's, nice bit of synergy that, since we are managed (sic) by Mr. Ed.
