I'm all for providing info for anyone looking, but please explain how there can be 1500 ahead of you when there aren't 1500 pilots in the company yet, let alone 1500 ahead in the line to command.

Keep to the facts dude

Vorsicht,
Take a look at the mailboxes in CBC. the number is in the 1470's I think and it usually runs 2 weeks behind. It will be over 1500 by the end of the month.

Critical winge,

I have not heard about asking the AB capt.s to go to the Boeing. Is it in the form of an email to all of the AB Capts.? Or was it broadcast somewhere and I missed it? Thanks.

well, transferring skippers to the 777 is at least a step in the right direction. additionally ek would find sufficient suitable fo applicants if they would lower the requirement to 2500h. they could be trained rapidly enough onto the airbus fleet as no new aircraft arrive, the 380 already beeing delayed and will be some more, leaving training capacity (provided they will make conditions for tri's tre's more attractive). transfering skippers to the 777 is a much faster way of getting these ships crewed than with dec's. the departing on the bus can be replaced with ek internal proven quality upgrades, this will be a vital asset to convince future fo's to join. if the entry level is at 2500h, these guys will not mind a upgrade time of around 5 to 6 years, they'd need it anyway to get the hours! take them in now and they'll be ready for the big pig in due time, again no need to try to attract defo's for it then. everything stays in house, keeps people happier, so they might stay, and attracts more young and the whole system is even cheaper.
we all know where the stumbling block lies, even the upper levels. i just wonder what the **** holds them back to fire him.

I don't think they're quite desperate enough, yet, to go hire your ham-fisted brethren.....

There's enough on the roads here, let alone the runways.

It's not about the passport, it's about the lack of flying skill and thought-processes of the dunderklumpens.

You know how to tell someone in HR is lying to you? Their lips are moving!

Unhappy

The unfortunate thing is that this whole dire need for basically anyone who's qualified, let alone for the left seat is pretty bad in quite a few aspects, though.

- It will be almost impossible to catch up in the race that EK is messing up at the moment. Hard to win from the very back of the field. In Feb 2006 they lacked 88 captains on the Boeing alone. Anyone doing the maths will know that that is simply a burden that is impossible to catch up with their expansion going.

That in return will mean that we will have to suffer more flying (I guess not possible on the Airbus), less days off, even less leave granted during peak seasons and eventually outside of those times, too.

It's not just the (lack of) pilots that are a problem. Does anyone have the slightest idea where they get their engineers from? I'm talking about the qualified ones. Or the cabin crew? Has anyone not had an incidence lately when some of them didn't either understand English or didn't speak it in an intelligible manner? Let alone lacking the ability to take care of safety/security.

At the moment I see an airline that's heading in a direction that might spell disaster. Only a chance of that but it's becoming increasingly bigger. Value Jet of the middle east?

- An airline will be pretty much on the verge of literal breakdown if it can not fly the planes it has. Imagine the costs involved.

Fine if that situation for EK will increase our pay, improve the conditions for the employees, etc. - if it does, which I doubt. I think that there will be hardly any effect on the positive side for us. In the end there might be even the airlines fate at stake. No airline can afford to park their newly acquired planes somewhere in the desert (at least they wouldn't have to fly them to Arizona, right? It's right in front of their door... ) for a long time. I also see some future profit share going to financing banks and fellow bandits instead of into my pocket.

Yes, I do hope they will learn their lesson and they hopefully learn it quickly. But I don't believe it until I see it.

I am one of the happy ones here with some 830 hours during the last 12 months. And I would hate to see all that disappear into nothingness because of some idiots who cannot add up simple natural numbers, or do a few divisions and multiplications with them.

Oh my gosh, all this pontificating about whether EK will 'survive', or not.

Of course they will, and buy more airplanes, hire more pilots (DEC's if needed, and I suppose they do) and generally get bigger.
Will this please those still left, who are soooo sure that THEY positively KNOW how to run the airline.

Hardly.

Malcontents are never truly satisfied, they just generally bark at the moon, and protest on PPRuNe.
Some will stay, some will depart, but the airline will definitely survive, no matter how much a few like (or don't like) about it.

Can't stand the heat....move on to green pastures.
If you can find 'em.
The pilots at CX just a few short years ago, decided that they would 'make a difference'.
The only difference was, there were a less of 'em, for awhile.
Silly boys.

So, the rose garden is not what it seemed to those that applied/were hired by EK.
Few airlines are.
Get used to it.

It is so good to see the nursing home finally got a computer for you 411a. I've missed your shallow, repetitive inane comments.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before you got bored with the bridge club and decided to go fishing in the Middle East again.

Welcome back.

I cannot get to LHR today or tommorrow for the EK briefings at the Marriott but would be grateful for feedback from anyone who does visit them please. I would only go to EK for a LHR base and would be interested to know if they are considering that yet!

Fly747 - sorry to be blunt but EK do not have any plans for basing anywhere apart from DXB either now or in near future from what I know. Let's say hypothetically that EK decide to have a base at LHR, if you do join EK you will be way down the seniority list of guys wanting to be based there, and trust me there are a lot of guys who would like it. So if a LHR base is all that you are interested in - and not EK as a whole, then don't even bother going any further down the track.

What seniority list is that mc? If they are taking direct entry commands in DXB now there can't be much of a seniority list unless all the FOs are unpromotable which is obviously not the case! They need 300 pilots at least over the next year, if they want people they will have to consider basings. It will be much easier to base new people than let existing pilots leave.

Fly747,

If they gave new DECs basings, then they will be looking for a heap load more DECs to replace those that WILL leave.

There is a seniority list, it is respected and there are a lot of CAPTAINS who will be above you that will get first crack at the whip. You want a basing? Try CX Cargo.

Fly747,

Quite a few EK pilots are commuting already. The moment EK will offer bases outside of Dubai (and that will not be in the near future), these people will claim those places, and they have the right to!

And yes, we DO have a seniority system in EK. Ask the DEC's who are moaning now that they have been here for over 2 years but are being bypassed by 'junior' Captains to go on the A340. Sorry guys (not really actually), you got a cheap command at EK, so as long as people who were bypassed by you in the first place are suitable for a position you're looking for, you'll be stuck where you are now.

747, hope you were looking for a F/O position. Couldn't bear the tought that a DEC not only wants to take some F/O's Command but also insists on a LHR base from the start... I just can't handle such an amount of egoism.

How many guys have the experience for command but are being bypassed? Is it purely a training capacity issue that they are not promoting from within?
