You are correct to certain extent.
Stby duty days are now paid half. You definately will not be working 20 days in a month. Too good to be true!! Trust me, I have got mates there. You will be lucky if you get 15 days of duty.
You must accept company provided accommodation. No exception unless you do not want the furniture allowance. A one off payment of 35K for Capt and 32K for F/O. Furniture allowance is valid for 3 years, there after you get a monthly allowance for furniture. (900AED for Capt. and 700AED for F/O)

PURPLE.are you sure that you do not work for Etihad?For an outsider you seem to have the company sussed out.I agree with everything you have said.The last paragraph is espacially true.Considering the available budget,corners are being cut at every level(including training etc.)This charter company mentality can only end in tears.

I was thinking in apply to Etihad. I was reading the posts and to be honest I guess it is not a very good deal.
Just to confirm, there is no pension or provident fund?
Do you think the per diems will be introduced in a near future?

There are NO perdiems when on a layover. The 700 duty pay per rostered days work (half for standby) is only to get the already pathetic pay scale up a little more. For example, if a 777 Captain works 16 days in a month then the base salary (including 700/day duty pay) is still UNDER $US 10,000. Then take out more to top up the accomodation allowance so as to live in something liveable. etc etc... As I said there is NO perdiem allowance. You are right, if on a 2 day layover in Toronto then you use your basic pay to look after your living expenses Good Luck!!!

I would like to ask a question, do they pay for the families in the existing accom, which they where given on arrival over the last 3 years, to move into the “comapmy provided” accom. Removals and or staorage can be expensive! Also I believe some are paying out as much as 5000dirums or $1300 or £800 extra to live in suitable apartment/villas, is this true. Is there any sign of a climb down?
It is a sad state of affairs, as it would be a good company to work for if it was more people orientated and not purely goal orientated as it seems to be. They do not seem to have a grasp of what family life or stability is and they are willing to sacrifice this in the hope some will still join.

It all depends on what you consider suitable accommodation. If you splash out for a huge villa or apartment of course you'll gonna pay much more. But on average you might have to fork out about 4000aed for a decent place. Having said that,prices are not static and will increase every year.
Ideally the package should cover the cost, but i guess there are some people in the company who think otherwise.

The company should be nice and there are lotsa room for improvement..but it all depends on what future the abu dhabi gov wants for etihad. Housing is the biggest problem for most of the guys at the moment. Cheap accomodation is available but the place is usually dim and crowded. A decent apartment with parking is about 120k+ AT LEAST! (3rooms). Company seems to not wanna budge on this housing issue..

Etihad is a new airline but it is already making the same mistakes that the other airlines are doing or have done. Benefits and allowances are being reduced, in a belief that they were too high. And the real situation
of living in the UAE is not address seriously.
I don't think they can call it a National Airline if it is run like a Low Cost Carrier.

In situations like these, it is always worthy to know the "big shots" package. Where do they live? How many cars and "what cars"? Are they single, married, no kids? All that plays "big" in the nowadays wherever you are. There is usually a big gap between the top and the rest of us.
Not long ago, the sponsors housed you with the usual maintenance service provider problems. Education was reasonable to meet medium level international school fees.
With airlines breaking up or going broke, the conditions won´t go up. The supply is there to last for a long time, and meets by far the demand, otherwise "attitudes" would have changed. Remember that airlines are now recruiting non-type rated or non-experienced staff in other areas.

Unless you are prepared to fork out a lot of your own cash to live in a decent place otherwise bad luck.
There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed here and not only accommodation.... the per diem....another big issue...

Just read all the threads since Ari hit the right not.Camel bird you are right I was interested but i was told that it was run like a low cost outfit. Not sure but my story was the top men were all from eurpoen low budgit charterers companys. ony need look at the way they deal with staff to be worried. Said before there are now jobs around that are ok. The middle east is not the only job center
