Gulf Air Opening Pilot Training Facility in Bahrain Soon

Hi-tech simulator for pilots

http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/Story...&IssueID=28262

GULF Air pilots will soon be training in a state-of-the-art simulator complex being built in Bahrain.

The BD3.5 million facility is nearing completion at Gulf Air's headquarters in Muharraq.

It is expected to be finished by the end of this year and will offer simulated on-board training to pilots on Boeing B767, Airbus A320 and A330/340 jets, in three flight simulators.

The training will focus on preparing pilots to handle scenarios involving engine failures, systems malfunctions and extremes of weather and turbulence.

The facility, executed by Bahrain's Mazen Al Umran Consulting Engineers, will have the latest visual systems, computer graphics and screen projections to provide realistic environments during training.

Operations vice-president Captain Hameed Ali said the project was conceived in-house by Gulf Air engineers and the aesthetic design of the building was the first of its kind in the region.

"It has taken only six months from start-to-finish, which is a record for a project of this size," he said.

"Every Gulf Air employee will be proud of this project."

International certification for the simulator is expected to be obtained by the second week of January, following which the facility will be open for regular training.

In addition to providing training for Gulf Air crews, it will be offered to other airlines wanting to use the facility.

Capt Hameed said that internationally, pilots have to undergo training every six months to keep updated, but many airlines do not have a simulator facility of their own.

"Gulf Air will have a unique commercial opportunity to exploit this state-of-the-art facility," he added.

On a side note, Gulf Air has started to hire again for A320/B767 FOs.

I beg your pardon?

Hi Tech and Bahrain in the same sentence? This is the same kind of spin we read in The GDN when the king announces some fictitious plan to help Bahrains economy grow or attract foriegn investment. Hang on that sounds a little close to home......

The simulators are the same old sweat boxes we had in Doha, only in a building with a fresh coat of paint. Within a couple of years it will look like any other run down and neglected building in Bahrain.

They are being built on the cheap by laborors that wouldnt know there ar** from their elbow. Result, no water pressure, backed up toilets, tripped circuits and faulty temperature control.

And did I hear correctly that they had a glut of 767 guys and were thinking of moving them on the the 330's without the seniority? Go ahead guys, come and join this circus, you'll be treated like circuses normally treat their animals, and when on the cusp of upgrade they will randomly change their minds and hire a bunch of new guys to go direct entry ahead of you!

Inflames, you really have to do something about your spelling old chap! Looking at your posts you have gone and identified yourself as a new joiner. This was from August of last year.
I have been looking for anyone in the company to give me some details but to no avail. It seems to be a little hazy as to whats involved, but if anyone could fill in some details as to what they are going to do to me for the 4 days i am there I would be very grateful. position is for F/O without type A320.
So one of two things happened, either you failed the interview (most likely) and are sniping from the wings as a bitter revenge, or you came, got a type rating and after only a few months here feel you have a right to spoil it for everyone else. Either way it's a sign of poor character on your part. Try posting something nice for a change and stop being so negative. In the long run you will be a lot happier. PS I love the bit about upgrades...after less than a year in GF you think you are command material?

I have to agree with you JB...

You forgot to mention that they are upgrading the "old sweat boxes" to "new hi tec sweat boxes"...

and by the way, i dont think that the "pink palace" (our headquarter) looks ugly, so i guess this new simulator building will be maintain in the same way...

Jeez, CaptB not happy in GF and not happy in EK. Running out of options aren't ya! BTW the next ex-pat upgrades are due next summer, so the points system is not so bad. If you do your time it will happen. Takes about 6 years on 320 and a little less on the 767. Sounds fair enough to me.

Inflames,

"They are being built on the cheap by laborors that wouldnt know there ar** from their elbow. Result, no water pressure, backed up toilets, tripped circuits and faulty temperature control.

As a person who is directly involved in the installation of the "Old sweat Boxes" I can quickly correct the total load of B@ll$#ks that you have posted. Currently there is no water connected and no toilets have yet been installed. As for the A/C when they have connected the Units I'm sure this will work fine.

If you work for QR then please enjoy the state of the Arch building which we left you. Sorry you have no more jollies to Dubai any more, you'll just have to put up with the c#$p hole of the Gulf and an idiot of a CEO.

Gulf Air

Does anyone know what the starting pay is at GulfAir and the working conditions, benefits etc. Is GulfAir any better to work for than EK (Emirates, Qatari or Ithihad)?
