Memorise ALL of the following:

FOM, RM, FCOM, FCI, FCN

mmmm....now that shouldn't take too long !!

(p.s. don't forget to be nice to the psychs or you will come out with a personality reversal)

Good luck.

WS,

30 questions, multi guess and a mix of FOM and tech.

Some tech are ECAM pictures: What's it doing now, etc

Know about FO limits, other obvious things like that and beware the question:

How long between taking Viagra and flying?
HTFSIK

Good luck.

Apparently they have some tossers from HR involved in the interview now, getting their fat heads in the way and trying to look as if they have a clue WTF is going on and what makes a good captain/yes-man.

Don't forget to try to be nice to the tosser from HR and try not to ignore the HR tosser or look too scornful and sickened when they start mouthing off about whatever TF they think they know about your suitability to operate a fliegen-wagen.

PS Make sure you tell them you do understand that the thing in the FOM about viagra isn't such a big deal or anything to do with substance abuse.

It's actually because they don't want the captain (you) walking into the hosties briefing room and terrifying them with a massive boned-up mongrel tent-pole in ya trousers.

Not to mention the effect it'd have on some of the blokes amongst them.....

If you do mis-judge your viagra timing, just hook your hat on it during the brief.

I gotta agree. If you know your stuff and you are ready for the upgrade, then it'll be a piece of cake. If you are worried now, then it'll show right through and you will not be accepted int the higher echelons.

For your sake I hope you are ready and luck? Where does that come into the equation? By default, are you 'lucky' to get your command?

OK

It seems pretty obvious that this kind of attitude ultimately put our profession at the infamous point we are now.
Few professional groups shares the same egoistic, selfish, lack of solidarity as ours.
What's the problem in someone look for any help on a Forum like this or any other means?
Why not help who is genuinely and honestly pursuing an upgrade or a better job in this career?
Who can say that never look for help in the past like this fellow is doing?

SecurID:

Sorry, but your post impressed me as a fine piece of arrogant statement.
You said:

"By default, are you 'lucky' to get your command?"

In certain way, yes, definitely! Don't you, Mr super-pilot-top-gun?
You had never a bad day on check ride?
After 30 years since I first put my butt on an aircraft as a crew, I can say one thing: be humble. There's a lot of top guns buried on the ridges.
Though I personnaly never failed a check ride (lucky guy...) I saw some good fellows in trouble because they took the wrong check pilot at the wrong day.

Whooaa there FF, slow down before you burst a blood vessel. There is nothing wrong with seeking help "..by any other means.." but I can't remember the last time I read anything on here that was actually true.

Fleet Manager "So upgrade candidate, that was an interesting answer, what is the reference for that?"
Candidate "Some total stranger on PPRUNE told me, ref PPRuNe Forums » Rest of the World & Non-English Language Forums » Middle East » EK Upgrade Tech Quiz dated Nov 2005 posting number 21..."

I wish any candidate the best of luck, but your company gives you a pile of books, study them and not Pprune, that's my tip!

Is there anyone about to do the test who's old enough to remember the dreaded (and much discussed) Third Oil Line a la the RR Dart?

No one, including the checkies, had a bloody clue what the TOL* did, but you could almost guarantee it would come up at some time during a command check ride. There must be a modern day EK equivalent.

Could it be the expiry date on the flight deck fire extinguisher???

Arrogant? Maybe if you re-read the statement you might see the point I was trying to make. If not, then allow me to explain.

I said that "For your sake I hope you are ready and luck? Where does that come into the equation? By default, are you 'lucky' to get your command?" It is one paragraph, and each sentence refers to the previous. The advantage of 'Luck' was questioned and obviously that should not come into play. If you did get through the commant interview by having been 'Lucky' then should you really be accepting the position? Maybe the 'English as a second language' might read it differently, but I have never considered myself 'Lucky' to be here. I worked hard to get my licence, I do a damn good job and worked hard, very hard, to get my command.

Bad check rides? Sure, but nothing that has not enabled me to learn more and become better at my own job. You see, I don;t actually look at them as 'check rides' more as an opportunity to improve. As for getting the wrong check pilot, was anything done about it? The check pilots look at us and if we are not good enough, then they say so. I would recommend that you do the same if your check pilot is not of the standard that you expect. After thirty years, you should be able to tell the difference between the good trainers and the bad.

Lucky? Yes, Emirates are very Lucky to have me and you and every other pilot who has sold up and moved to the desert.

I sorry not to help on the subject but I am about to join Ek and the command issue is a big point for a decision in either directions.
How long have you waited for this interview and what is your experience?
Everybody of your seniority was offered this interview?

Thanks a lot for the info and if you want you can pm me.

Thanks

At present on the airbus fleet it runs about 3 years and 3 months. The guys next door are on the course and they are in that group. On the boeing fleet it is 2 years and 11 months. Things are dynamic here, so it changes from month to month. It could speed up, or it could slow down. You will be FO number 650 on the seniority list, about 100 fo's upgraded yearly so at present seniority date it looks like it will not be 3 years. EK might hire Direct Entry Captains, and they might not, they might do cross fleet upgrades or they might not, they might change the accelerate command programme or they might not. Accelerate command at present meens you join with 8000hours and 2000 command hours on aircraft more than 55 tonnes. It used to be about two years ago 6000 hours and 1000 hours command

What has not been addressed here is that over the next two or three years, how many EK national FOs (ex-cadets) qualify for the command requirements? Answer: LOTS!!

So you join at 650, 100 a year get promoted, that's over 6 years to command. But then there's always Emirates Express....

Emirates Express

fullforward: Thanks for your nice reply reg. the "funny" answers I got so far! You seem to be the only one who actually remembers to have been in the same situation.
Obviously, as soon as some blokes become captains, they tend to forget that they were thankful for some hints once it was their turn. But one can always talk rubbish sitting on a high horse...

At least I will remember that I was FO before and will try to help my colleagues...that´s what CRM is about, isn´t it???

Got a new meaning for PPRUNE: People Plappering RUbbish on the NEt...

OK white meat, disregard any of my previous posts and try this. My tip for your upgrade quiz, firstly, don't bother reading the FOM, the FCOMs, Route manual, MEL or any othere company supplied technical document. I suggest you go to the TECH Forum and read the last 5 years worth of postings. When you're done there, try JET BLAST for tips on handling an interview, finally for that extra bit of polish, try the SPOTTERS FORUM as these guys know the most obscue trivial pieces of information that will really impress your boss. Is that what you were after? Hope it helps, good luck.
