I'm NOT an UAE ACC controller but I know that between 1030-1830 UTC the UAE Central sector is combined with UAE South sector due to lack of staff. To avoid traffic/frequency overload they enforce flow control during these hours. From OMAA via G462 to BALUS typical 5 min between departures exiting OMAA CTA via NIBAX. Good luck!

Forgot to say: don\'t go mad on the OMAA tower controllers, they just follow instructions from UAE ACC...

And don't get mad at UAE ACC, we have to do it because we don't have staff. If we didn't do it, we wouldn't get the 1/2 hour break prescribed as the minimum after working 2 and a 1/2 hours of busy traffic. I hope you can sympathise. We want more controllers so this sort of thing doesn't need to happen, but until the package is improved, noone wants to come here. Cheers.

P.S Dr. Evil I'm sure you guys could handle a little anger better than us, considering the amount of time you have away from the radar to get over it.

As we are talking about UAE ACC, do UAE ACC ever get to talk to Dubai ATC? The reason I ask is as we come back from Europe to Dubai, when we are handed over from Tehran we are often told to slow down, given vectors to increase spacing etc then the moment we talk to Dubai it is direct to OM, no speed etc. Conversely the other 50% of the time we are left to our own devices until we get onto Dubai then it is slow down, radar vectors etc.
DO you get a chance to coordinate efforts!!!

The UAE ACC has been mis-managed almost into the ground. ANSA is correct about the reason; lack of staff. There have been numerous threads about the ACC on the ATC forum if you are at all interested in the debacle. Look for "the Abu Dhabi Titanic" threads (although they keep getting deleted).
It keeps getting busier, they keep on with the "if you don't like it leave" line, people do, and they can't attract enough replacements.
As an example of that mis-management....
do UAE ACC ever get to talk to Dubai ATC
there is an instruction out actually preventing co-ord for the purpose of expedition. The ACC is not allowed to try and be efficient.
The flow methods themselves are from the 70's, sort of reflecting the management thinking there.

With the price of fuel, you would think that a certain airline based in Dubai might actually ask some questions, and not get snowed by that master of BS, the great Dane. Then again, after reading these forums, it's no wonder the airline managers are baffled by the BS.

No, we try not to talk to Dubai too much. We vector and manipulate the speed in order to meet the STAR requirement of 250kts and below 13000 feet by the CTA. We have to space the traffic 10nm in trail for Dubai through each gate (15nm depending on runway and gate due to the construction). Dubai should really keep you are the arrival but they may have other plans which are dependant on the traffic at that particular time, arrivals in from Abu Dhabi etc.

Ferris,

Isn't the real problem into Dubai the fact that a failed Dubai controller is at the DCA. I understand that Dubai are always asking for control over the bottom of the hold but RJ won't grant them permission. This means that on the way in, centre either space us unnecessarily or when handed off to Dubai we end up doing a tour of the Middle East, with our SA in the toilet, because they have no where to hold us.

(Sorry, just saw you were talking about the great dane, thought it was a dog on the first read thru)

Cerberus
the problem you are talking about is very real, but not the cause of the gripe of this particular thread.
