Lybia ATC

For a university research project does anyone know any information on Lybia's ATC now sanctions have been lifted? Finding it really hard to get any information. How are they being trained? any info would be greatly appreciated?

I used to fly in LIBYA for two years and the ATC guys are trained in the UK although some of them have no f@#&* idea what's going on. Benghazi ATC is better organised then Tripoli. Tripoli ATC on HF is a different story, well what can I say, welcome to Africa...........

You will find in many UN documents (presumably with the agreement of the country itself) that LYBIA is a valid spelling.

Or, the Great Socialist People's Lybian Arab Jamahariya to give it its proper title.

Maybe lucky you're not the one doing the dissertation Oceanic

Although I have seen both spelling used, LIBYA is what is used in the Atlas, dictionary and in most documents.

Not to say LYBIA is wrong, the media uses the LYBIA spelling.
But at the end of it all, LIBYA is more recognized and correct than LYBIA.

Really? Which media? I've never seen it spelled this way in any news publication I've read.

Not sure really. It was in the article I read when this debate started. I do notice Yahoo News uses the LYBIA spelling. Libya is still more correct, actually the true spelling is LABIA but I guess this side of the world doesn't use that spelling. Just like Munich in most Atlas' is Munchen thats its German spelling. But we have adopted our own names for these places.

Interesting that we veer off to how to correctly spell Libya while the initial question was about the ATC in this country, anyway, does any of your wise men know how to write it in ararbic?

Libya ATC

Have recently returned from Libya. Spent 2 weeks training controllers on new ACC radar system. Tripoli controllers are highly competent, majority trained in UK (Bailbrook). They have been working a procedural system for almost five years as the radars were U/S due to lack of spares - resulting from the UN sanctions. Trust me when I tell you, these guys (and gals) are good!
