EK questions
Just digging for some insight from any dusty buggers out there. Aside from the usual moral, management blows and my upgrade has been delayed for another XX years laments.....is there anyone at EK who can put foreward some objective views.
My story you ask?
-25% pay cut (lucky one)
-Min 4 years from position I started at 8 years ago
-Airline debt reduced to only $6.5 billion
-25 years left in industry
-Further fleet reduction
-Too many items to list.
So if any kind souls out there could let me know how things are going. I Have flown out in Eastern Asia and Far East so I have a bit of a handle on living abroad. My wife and I are keen to go and despite my user name we have no kids.
Thanks in advance!

If you have no kids be aware of the accomodation situation. My wife and me ended up in an apartment on the 29th floor of a tower block on S.Z. Road with bright pink bathrooms and 300 cabin crew living underneath us. As we had given up a nice, detached house back home to come here my wife was less than impressed. As has been mentioned before you don't get any choice with the accomodation and you stay in a tower block until you get a command. However long that takes....
On a brighter note the accomodation allowance (if you move out) has gone up 10% recently and is now merely inadequate instead of completely useless.
At least we are saving money on education.

my guess is you work for AC, have alot freinds in the same boat you are in.
Most of the guys I have flown with latey love the apt's they are in,there are a few that would never be happy.
Apt's tend to be SZ road which is a central location.
Cost of living??? About 25% higher than Canada, Gas way cheaper. Housing is very high but if you use company housing it doesn't matter. It is much easier to take company housing and not worry , but you have to like what they give you. Each to his own on that one.
The company is still upgrading @ 3 years might go up to 4 , fast track still be used as well as DEC. Talk about 310 freighters(4) early next year. Good for those from AT or CAF.
No change planned for upgrade requirments.
With expandtion comes overtime and less leave, do not expect to have the summers off, plan on every 3rd summer and remember you can only be off flying for max 35 days. Easier to get summer leave as FO than Capt. because of upgrades some FO's lose there peak leave as a Capt

I wouldn't hesitate at the opportunity........chance to travel abroad and see some great destinations, solid company with growth, great fleet and future prospects.
Always going to be negative, but it's worth a look and compared to a future with AC there is no comparison, especially with 25 years left.
Good luck
